Seriously, hope people don't get too defensive but it's a legit question. Incredibly defensive and brilliant at it, but in most of ESB members' lifetimes, say the 80s, 90s and 00s, is Floyd the most boring ATG in recent memory? People who say "you don't appreciate boxing" etc etc is bull - attack is always more entertaining than pure defense. I appreciate his skills, his movement, his accuracy and what he's doing at 36 is phenomenal, great athlete and brilliant at self-preservation in and out of the ring But looking at some recent ATGs where does Floyd stand in terms of the most boring fighters out there? When I think back to the last 30 years I can't think of an ATG whose fights have excited me less - just saying...
I can say i never watched a Floyd fight twice. In terms of being boring hes up there with Hopkins as the most boring ATG of the last 30 years .
:huhMayweather is boring but he is the highest paid athlete in the world?:huh Obviously people pay 69 dollars to see ''boring'' Floyd Mayweather.
I thought he was pretty exciting against Guerrero until he injured his hand. Exciting in the sense that his skills were out of this world. He was waiting and pouncing like a cobra with that right hand, man. It was divine.
It's his mouth and the hype surrounding the Mayweather brand, that gets him so many buys. And he's rich because of the business model he uses. To the casuals, he is boring. Hence why people were jeering and walking out.
quick question, which fight finally made floyd an atg? was it the legendary ricky hatton fought at 147 or the astonishing unstoppable ortiz? or maybe the in prime oscar who was not coming off a near 2 year lay off and a bs fight with mayorga? or was it the 18 month inactive near 40 year old mosley? or.... was it the prime kostya, mosley, cotto, margo, williams and pacman floyd fought and beat that made him an atg? see what I did there?
He's brilliant out of the ring, he's engaging with the media, as these hilarious soundbites - "Blood sweat and tears" was the one he used in every media interview in the week leading up to the fight - he's a great PR guy, and of course he plays the villain to perfection, everyone tunes in hoping this will be when he loses - that 0 is important. Let's not pretend it's the excitement he generates in the ring - I enjoy watching some of his performances after the event, just watching how he's nullified this guy's threat, etc - but as a live event we have to be honest and say he simply is not exciting in that sense?
Many people pay to see him lose. Fact. He IS boring. Bar that fluke Ortiz stoppage you'll never get a KO from him. Great businessman, Great Boxer, Weak fighter. He just isn't exciting.
To be fair, all boxers take part in their fair share of boring fights. It takes two to tango. e.g. Pac can have amazing adrenalin charged fights, but then he can also have fighs like the one against Clottey.
yeah but when did you last see maweather in an amazing adrenalin charged fight? mayweathers effective at what he does which is mainly one shot grab and hold but as a spectacle its right up there (or down there) with watching grass grow
