The reason why he is boring, is because he is not as gifted offensively like Roy Jones Junior was, Sugar Ray Leonard.

His defensive abilities out weigh his offensive abilities.

Seriously..? Sugar Ray Leonard and Roy Jones Junior, implemented defence and offence much better than Floyd Mayweather.

Floyd Mayweather's one weakness is his offence, he is not as fluid combination puncher as Roy Jones, he does not really hit that hard ether.

Against the past all-time great WW, he would have to do more than landing single shots. Maybe if he had Tommy Hearn's type power he would do damage..? but he does not.

The checkers people would rather watch a slam dunk contest than a game.

    Yes.

He is a good boxer, but he is a bit boring.

    Ward is more boring though.

I get where the Thread Starter is coming from, why do people insist that calling a fighter boring is an attack on their skills or accomplishments. The Thread starter appears to acknowledge the skills and the legacy but stated that in the last 30 yrs or so Floyd probably is the least exciting great fighter

Is this that wrong of a statement ? Do lots of people not agree with this? Secondly whats this you have to like a pure defensive boxer in order to be a boxing fan bull crap. Seriously you guys sound like hipster art, music, or movie snobs. The you dont appreciate it so you dont understand it thing is a little pretentious

I believe most posters here whether they say it or not realize Floyd is a skilled once in a lifetime sort of fighter but that doesnt mean they have to like his style. I mean if I dont like every album or every song by my favorite band does that mean im not a fan or dont understand them. If I dont like a certain movie or 2 from an actor or a director does that mean im not a fan?

Sorry for the long winded rant but I like Floyd and Rigo and Wlad 3 guys who get the boring label and I understand why, but does it make them any less great or dominant, of course not

Anyway I do think that there is a degree of blame to be dished out on the opponent. Floyd and Wlad do everything they can to exploit weaknesses and box perfect fights. Isnt the burden put on the other guy to adjust and adapt to make it interesting? Maybe Im wrong but why does a bad fight get blamed on the winner when the loser clearly didnt change plans or get desperate

yer your right.. ali was a runner.. add pernell whitaker to that list

i find him INCREDIBLY entertaining.. and i honestly feel you appreciate him more IF you have actually tried to box. the sheer brilliance how he can fight fighters who look at the very worst decent vursing everyone else and make them look like complete amateurs is astounding

and to be totally honest.. i feel he is one of the most composed fighters iv ever witnessed inside the ring, to box is to hit and not get hit.. floyd does that perfectly.. its not his fault he counters and moves so well that fighters usualy punch output is halved because they are to worried

id like to see him step on the gas and go for knockouts a bit more once he has worn his fighter down (like the hatton fight) and i feel his last 2 outings he has tried to do that... im not sure how anyone who is into boxing can find him boring

He is the only #1 P4P fighter in the world that has had the audience get up and leave in the middle of some of his fights, I dont recall another #1 P4P fighter ever going through that.... So that says the mans ****ing boring.

me personally.. id go straight to floyd, whitaker , ali ALL DEFENSIVE FIGHTERS

marquez and ray leonard would also get a viewing

I found Hopkins post-2001 much tougher to watch for the most part. If you class Wlad as an ATG, then he's more boring too.

If you find Floyd boring, I dare say you weren't riveted by Pea either. Personally, I do enjoy watching him.

Have you been to a Mayweather fight before?

I went to the Ortiz fight and myself and my friend were a small minority in our seated area who wanted him to win. These guys didn't know who Ortiz was they just bought into the hype and were predicting a "ko" for Ortiz. You should have seen their faces through round 1 - 4, looked unimpressed and gutted that Mayweather was putting on a clinic. Now take a neutral or Mayweather fan, they would have enjoyed watching the boxing on show.

Put it this way, it's like going to watch your favourite basketball team and they are down by 50 points in the 1st half. Would you stay and watch the rest?

Boring and exciting is a matter of personal opinion. From my point of view. I find watching a great athlete do what he dose best very exciting.
