Is Floyd to good, or is there a lack of competition?

I believe the cold truth is that, unless you've been in some genuinely gruelling fights (Rocky Marciano) an undefeated fighter is an unknown quantity; systematically we come to know the limitations of great fighters, partly because they dare to put themselves in harms way.

Despite Mayweathers climbing number of virtuoso performances, he plots his career like a business model, and such behaviour doesn't sit well in a bloodsport. Though outpointing Alvarez was another exhibition of supreme skill, it didn't tell us anything we didn't already know about the cash cow.

When you're a 3/1 on favourite to win your supposedly hardest fight in years you know something's missing.

Not all of this is Floyd's fault, he is a victim of his own undefeated hype, but, ego-driven negotiations aside, the fact the Pacquiao fight may slip completely out of reality will dirty his resume some. To what degree is an unknown.

So a little bit of both. If he was more active the calibre of his opponents wouldn't be so scrutinized and he could then at least flatten a division. Waiting six more months for a potential fight with Garcia is not fun. If Floyd were to deal with Alexander, Garcia and Khan within six months then praise would come more easily, but now we're putting pressure on that business model to hype bouts into something they're not.

Which fight would he not be a 3/1 favorite in in the past 6 years (including Pacquiao)?

Benitez was never really that good?? seriously, wtf. There is no one on Floyd's resume that could carry Benitez' jockstrap...

And Duran is a top 10 ATG.. Yes he was a lightweight for a decade, but people move up and their body's grow. Duran was a terrific win. as was Hearns, as was Benitez.. Hagler was even more amazing.

SRL has 1 top 10, 1 top 20, 1 top 40 and 1 top 75 ATG's on his resume. All in or close to their primes and all in or close to their natural weightclass.
Floyd has no one anywhere close to the top 100, arguably top 250..
JMM, Oscar and Mosley rank in the top 250, the first probably in the top 100, but none of them were anywhere close to their prime or natural weight..

It may seem a little harsh, but with a lack of truly outstanding talents around his natural poundage, Floyd would have to jump up to middleweight in order to get the kind of praise some feel he deserves. Certainly to get anywhere near the top ten greatest of all time.

There's great depth to his record, but it's lacking that X factor. His performances are stellar, but he's not active enough. Some drastic moves are in order to hoist him up that all time ladder.
