Is focusing on the body for the first 6 rds the key to a Canelo Victory?

The only chance i think Canelo has against Mayweather is to focus primarily on Floyd's body for the first 6 rounds and hope to weaken his legs for the second half of the fight. He should throw feints to the head to get Mayweathers hands up and doing his shoulder roll but then move down with vicious 2 or 3 punch combo's to the body. No need to even focus his energies on head-hunting unless it's just to throw out his jabs to get himself within punching range.

The problem with previous Mayweather opponents is their obsession with head-hunting him especially in his last few fights against Guerrero, Cotto, Mosley and Ortiz which has never proved fruitful due to Floyds brilliant shoulder roll defence and footwork.

As the old boxing adage goes, 'Kill the body and the head will fall'.

    Thoughts?

Canelito was scared to go after Trout's body....He fought Austin like he was in the ring with Bob Foster.

Alvarez doesn't have the inside game to weaken Mayweather with bodyshots.
    His tummy is too weak.

I agree about the Trout fight but didn't Canelo used to throw some great bodyshot combo's? He seems to have changed to his style in his last few fights to being primarily a head-hunter which i think is the wrong style to beat Mayweather.

you're not the first person to come up with this gameplan. It has been used for over a decade

Has it? The only real guy i've seen against Mayweather who focused as much on the body then the head was Castillo.

He just needs to fight his fight & not get drawn into a pot shot boxing match with Floyd, if he sticks to what he's good at, fast combinations to the head and body, Canelo is normally calm and composed, if he stays calm & mixes it up, it'll be close.

easy to say and very hard, almost impossible to do.

to beat Floyd you have to have some "god gifted" physical attributes and better ring IQ than him to outthink him in the ring. :yep

Floyd most probably will retire with his "0" intact. :yep

IMO the fighters that really would've troubled Floyd are: 2007-2009 Pacquiao, 2002 Vernon Forrest, 2007 Cotto, 1999 Felix Trinidad and 2009 PW.

He needs to make it a brawl. Bully Floyd, use his weight and hair color advantage. If Floyd uses the philly shell defense, hit his fragile shoulder with full force. If Floyd covers up, hit the guard, hit anything that can be hit, just don't hit nothing but air.

If Canelo follows the above game plan to perfection, he will lose a wide UD.

Yes he must focus on the body as well as feinting and throwing the overhand right which is a great punch to throw against PBF's defense. If Canelo doesn't hurt PBF in the first 3 rounds he's done because by then he will be figured out and picked apart.

I think he has a good chance in the exchanges where mayweather likes to sit on the ropes.. He has been getting hit more often each time he fights and canelo does throw some good hooks if mayweather gets caught it could be lie mosley again ..

WAtch the cotto fight and listen to Emanuel Stewart talking about the trouble with going after Floyd's body. He is a defensive master.

    ODLH
to Canelo: I've seen Floyd severely beat the mother of his children; men have punched themselves empty and hit nothing but air; yet, his strength, and speed, are still based in a world that is built on rules, catch weight rules. Because of that, he will never be as strong, or as fat, as you can be.
