There's always talk about hand speed and power, and rightfully so, but rarely any talk about how a fighter positioned himself or his opponent to land those shots. There's plenty of talk about chin, especially on ESB. But rarely is it mentioned that a fighter moved his chin close enough to smother an opponent's shots, or kept it just out of range. Offense, defense, ring generalship, these things all start with the feet. IMO, the only drawback to really close seats at a live event is not being able to really see the fighter's feet. Not even commentators make much mention of footwork unless it's a righty/lefty matchup. To his credit, Paulie does mention footwork, which is one of the reasons I like him.
One of the most overlooked for sure. People seem to get angry when a fighter uses their footwork to get out of punches.
B-Hop is a perfect example of how footwork is one of the most underrated keys to sucess in boxing take the Cloud fight: Clould threw half the number of punches he usually throws vs B-Hop, because of his footwork, ring movement and fear of being countered. B-Hop doesn't have big power at LHW, what he has is FOOTWORK, that neutralises his opponents best assets, and helps position him to counter his opponent without getting tagged himself
footwork is the most important, without it speed and power mean nothing,as footworks puts u in position to use your speed and generate power, and also allows you negate your opponents speed and power
Excellent point. Bernard's ability to economise his movement and energy has a lot to do with his footwork. Bernard has this weird ability to be able to land solid right hands whilst his back foot is off the floor and moving forward. I wish I could make GIFs to highlight what I mean so apologies if my explanation doesn't quite get my point across.
And the rest think what Manny does is good footwork (quick feet does not mean good footwork). I am a fan of Manny's but his footwork is **** and is the reason why he got knocked the **** out by Marquez . . . who has great footwork.
quick footwork is a part of good footwork, naturally. In case you didnt know, slow footwork is generally not a good thing.
i have never really overlooked it but thinking about it people do definitely look past it a lot of the time i think it is a very key factor within boxing if u have good foot work u can get out of a lot of tough situations that is for sure
Yes. And not many know wtf it is. They see skipping around and call it great footwork. Pac's footwork can be sloppy but is what brought him most of his success. His ability to dart in and out and punch on the move while changing the angle is superb.
True that. I believe I have seen people say Khan has good footwork going by the Maidana and Garcia fights.
This, exactly. Well said. :good Many (most) boxers overlook how important perfect foot PLACEMENT is to throwing a fast & powerful punch. It 'aint just for defense.
