In the amateurs? During sparring it works great against guys who constany backpedal and i can force them in the corner where i proceed to work their head and body often with such speed that they cant counter without getting a clean headshot. During sparring i just lightly tap them but i could probably do some serious danage if i did it full power. I know the level of amateurs is much higher than most of the guys i spar against which are mostly overweight veterans and cornering somebody will be much harder but if i do can i do what i mentioned above without the ref stpping in?
Most fighters subconsciously want to carry that out regardless of their plan. putting them into the corner is taking away upto 75% of their movement and you are standing in the only area they have to escape. You are forcing a confrontation, If you can land a good combo and break their spirit for a short moment it's one way to give them a standing 8. watch your shoulder barges and keep up good sportsmanship.
Sure it's one of many good strategies. Just bear in mind, older overweight sparring partners will go willingly into corners/ropes and cover up, cuz they're conserving energy while not getting hurt (as you said, you're hitting them lightly) so they're not motivated to get out, or punch out. This will be an entirely different story with lighter more active fighters.
If you can keep your composure yes, if not, you'll get dropped. Dont go all mike tyson without a brain. "The strong don't survive in this game, the smart do." Don't think Tyson just threw everything without thinking. Its risky if not done well but practice and you'll get it.
