Smokin' Joe obviously had the heart of a lion, he would never give up in any of his fights. However, it's also true that Frazier never faced that many ATG punchers, despite his era having many (Shavers, Lyle). When he did face one in George Foreman, he got knocked down numerous times. So what do you think?

The only man who stopped him was a young Foreman.

Joe could be hurt but kept getting up, he had a very solid chin.

Yeah but so did Patterson. I think getting up has more to do with heart than having a good chin, and Frazier had a LOT of heart.

Patterson was the odd-ish combo of a weak chin but top-tier recovery and heart.

I think Frazier had a very, very good, if not quite a cast iron, chin.

I wouldn't read too much info him getting stopped by Foreman. As a swarmer, Frazier was there to be hit. There aren't many, if any, fighters in history who could walk through a prime Foreman's punchers. Not the multiple combinations of power punches landed on Joe.

True, it was a stylistic nightmare for Joe.

Eh.. I’ve heard people critique him as having a “ weak “ chin, so no. I don’t think it’s overrated. I’ve always considered Frazier’s chin as better than average but not quite elite.

Several people on this very site have rated his chin as low as 6/10 or even lower. Ironically, some of those same people rate him as having poor defense. How a weak chinned, leaky defense pressure fighter who comes forward aggressively only got stopped twice is beyond my understanding. If anything his chin is underrated nowadays.

I rarely see anyone claiming he had one of the best chins ever.

I think he gets a rough deal on here if anything where his durability is concerned, I've seen all manner of plonkers pick any decent hitting toiler to beat him on plenty of occasions. You'd think they'd mixed him up with Herbie b*starding Hide.

Joe has more than enough heart and a chin good enough. I think him being a slow starter, he wasn't able to quickly adapt to Foreman, so he suffered the consequences.

He took monster shots from Foreman in that fight not many could have survived that by still being on their feet.
His chin wasn’t A grade but it wasn’t far off.

Frazier fought exactly ONE O N E 1 genuine modern Puncher and he got bounced not once but twice in complete uncompetitive fashion. Fact.

For all the bob and weave Frazier's face looked like Moon Craters in all of his signature fights.Fact.

I repeat, Frazier never fought ANY top notch even limited Bangers, full stop, there are not ANY B level Fighters/ Punchers like Savers or Lyle on his resume.

Getting knocked down repeatedly by single shots is not the sign of a top notch Heavyweight chin and Foreman's entire Rep is made out of waxing Frazier and china chin Norton. Fact.

The saying is that power is the last thing a fighter looses................Comeback Foreman could never duplicate his so called " Monster Power" even against sub par fighters because Heavyweights had gotten significantly bigger during his comeback and he no longer was the "Big" guy.....his only notable KO is over glass chinned Michael Moorer, besides that he did not KO squat on the upper level......and walking Alkie Cooney was nowhere near upper level.

Conclusion.Fraziers chin is average and a serious liability vs lights out punchers.

Severe facial damage after many of his fights speaks for Frazier's punch resistance, not against it.

Frazier took many punches, hell many combinations against Foreman, without getting KO'd. Yes he was dropped multiple times, hurt and stopped on his feet, but how many fighters in history would have taken those same combinations and walked through them?

Watch footage of prime and comeback Foreman. Comeback Foreman was barely more than an arm puncher because he was so slow, that had he put the same leverage into his wide, looping shots thrown from the back of the arena, that he did during his prime, his opponent could have seen it coming, hit him thrice, and still have time to evade the shot. Comeback Foreman was stronger than prime Foreman, could probably hit the heavy bag as hard if not harder, but in fights against live opponents, he typically most certainly didn't hit anything like as hard, for this reason.

Frazier got hurt by guys like Manuel Ramos and Bonavena. Foreman dropped him every time he hit. Granite chin isn't what comes to mind when i think of Joe Frazier
