It's all good I guess, esp. if it gets the fights made. BUT, we all know the effects (extra) weight draining has on fighters, of all weights (esp. the "big dogs").

In a way, it does sort of taint the W, if you've made the opponent dry up far more than usual. I mean, Sugar Mosely for example, if dropped to 140, would likely be an "easier" opponent at that point, than he would be at 147? no?

But Manny is awesome to behold, and I can't see why not just let the opponent come in ANYWHERE within the specified weight class, and the W would be soooo much more impressive. Also, there could be NO excuse for why the opponent lost either.

If there were to be a cap on anything, why not let a WW weigh in at 147, BUT put a cap on what they can weigh on fight night? That seems more fair, and would still make the W much more impressive than boiling the **** out of bigger guys, then rockin' the **** out of 'em.

    Only my opinion.

I'm the best trainer because I got the best fighter-Freddie Roach

What makes him a jerk compared to Floyd Sr?

Of course Oscar draining down to 147 was an advantage for Pacquiao, I don't think even the biggest Pacquiao fans deny that. But the double standard is that noone recognizes (after the fight) how big an advantage it was for Oscar that Pacquiao had never fought abve lightweight before, and only once above super featherweight, and was moving up 2 weightclasses in one shot. So there's a major hypocrisy.

If Pacquiao had edged out a close fight, then yea, I would agree with those who say that Oscar in his prime and at a comfortable weight might have beaten Pacquiao. But Pacquiao beat him for the entire fight, even in the first round when Oscar was fresh and throwing alot of punches. Pac schooled this guy. He exposed not only his physical limitations but his technical ones as well. Thats why I am 100% convinced that prime for prime, if you put the Pacquiao that beat Oscar and Hatton against the Oscar that beat Whitaker and Chavez, Pacquiao beats Oscar. I'm sure of it. Styles make fights, and ability makes fights. Pac has the perfect style to defeat any version of Oscar and the perfect gameplan and all the necessary tools to implement it.

As for all the hate on Freddy, he doesn't deserve any of it. He is all class and even in those instances where he says something he shouldn't there is barely ever any bad intentions behind it. He is the best trainer in the world and a class act on top of it. Sometimes he gets a little cocky and he is the first to admit it

Unfortunately jealousy breeds hate and when you got someone as successful as Roach and Manny P there will be alot of jealousy

For people saying that Manny would be the same with another trainer. I'm not a boxing trainer. But I am a football coach and a sensei and in the end weather or not your students use what you teach them reflects on you. I heard people saying when Hatton got pounded that 'Maywether was telling him the right thigns.' Thats true but it was obvious that he hadn't ingrained them into hatton. Talking is one thing teaching is another. Part of coaching/training is making what you want them to do second nature. Its one thing to teach it, its another to make it instinct and that all reflects on you.

They're in the driver's seat money-wise - it's not like it hasn't been done in the past. It just happens that there's way more at 147 than 140 right now. Hell, they could say "we're done jumping; 140 or nothing".

Bottom line is, as someone above alluded to: if you were in his position, you'd do the exact same thing. If you didn't, you should be fired.

Pac's legacy may take a hit from it but wins (vs a potential loss) would justify that and over time, that taint will fade to footnote status.

Great trainer who's just doing his job looking to get the maximum legal advantage he could get. It also helps that you have a great fighter executing your game plans.
