People also forget that DLH's last fight with 2 Pounds, took place at 150. Oscar dropped three pounds, while Manny went up twelve. Ooh, that evil Roach, he should've turned down the fight at 147 and offered to fight DLH at 154. The crybabies in this forum are getting out of hand.
Roach learned from the best, Futch. I met Futch when I was in Bowe's camp years ago. He was one of the best trainers in boxing history and a very nice person.
Roach is looking out for his fighter. t's up to public or promoters to accept or reject catch weight fights. At least Pacman is fighting top guys, on consistant basis, and winning. That was not really an interview anyway, just a sentance or two. Roach was tough fighter when he boxed, I don't know how many here realize that. He competed against best at his weight (bantam, I think) and fought in that tough California circuit. He was good, not champion material, but good and tough. Out side of Mc Girt, not many others who train at tile fight level have gone as far as pros as he Roach did. He knows what it's like to fight pro, and he doesn't forget it. I respect that.
Roach is a great trainer....a boxing genius?? Maybe, but he's only looking out for his fighters' well being. By requesting a catch weight ONE TIME against a fighter who holds many physical advantages against his smaller fighter that is not uncommon. He's got a job to do and he's doing it well...both inside the ring and out of it.
