If you seen my posts, I been holding emmanuel as the the reason for why Juan beat him. That doesn't mean roach wasn't rated too highly.
Yes he is overrated. He is good but not great. His fighters success are sometimes due to good matchmaking ( Pacman, Khan).
So given that we're judging Roach's ability as a trainer solely on Khan and Pac, which other trainer would have made those 2 fighters better than they are even now?

I think his two prominent fighters, Pacquiao and Khan, have very similar abilities (brilliantly athletically gifted, very quick, and both have high stamina) and have been taught to fight in a very similar style. This style imo, is very potent against the right opponents but is also very flawed, especially defensively, and there seems to be no plan b, and his fighters don't seem to be able (or haven't been taught) to make adjustments during the bout.
i think roach doesnt change a fighter but works on their strengths and bad habits... why would roach impose an inside game to khan when he has a weak chin and has mobility to turn opponents...
The pictures shows PAC using his right hand because before Roach he was a left-crazy one dimensional slugger. You don't know sh!t about baaaaxin'!
The problem is that he was so vastly overrated for so long that now it looks like he's a bum because he has looked bad recently. It's a fair argument to point out that despite three shots at Marquez, Roach was ultimately not able to make any game winning adjustments. That looks bad on him as a trainer.
More than anything, I think his fighters' competition are underrated, making their own struggles look much worse than they are. Khan being said to have been "exposed" coincides with the fact that Peterson would be called a "bum" by critics, had he not won. Maidana is also just a "bum" with no skill. Pacquiao shouldn't have lost to JMM because he had been struggling with "B level fighters" in Katsidis and Diaz, despite the fact they were the top contenders in their division. Then there's Linares, who should not be discredited at all for fighting how he did against DeMarco. Sure, each has their flaws and Roach is partly to blame, but they're not struggling against nobodies here; they're being challenged and beat in competitive fights by the elite.
