http://www.fightnews.com/?p=7348 Mind Games, or Is Freddie Roach showing his concern for Pacman's chances going into the Hatton fight, by arguing over the choice of referee?
No, he has a valid point. Excessive holding is illegal, and Hatton does too much of it. Hence we need a ref that is fair to both fighters, giving them both a chance, but clamping down on illegal moves. Cortez on his last Hatton fight would be too much in favour of Pacquiao, Jay Nady is a good choice.
I like Bayless, but he wasn't strict enough on Malignaggi in the November fight...... how about Smoger?
Smoger is a top ref, his style is usually seen but not heard. He lets the fighters get on with it. I'm sure he's aware of Hatton's penchant for fouling also and would be vigilant. Another good choice. Just no Cortez or Parris or any of these clowns that are completely biased.
Terry O'Connor is God-awful as well. It is high time he was actually taught how to score a fight. A close fight between a prospect and a journeyman can actually be scored as a draw or a win for the journeyman...... not a shutout for the prospect you know. Some of his stoppages are hilarious. A guy is getting the **** beaten out of him and is allowed to continue, then when he recovers he is stopped on his feet..... then the Calzaghe vs Manfredo one, which always draws a smile. On this subject..... who is Britain's best referee? I think Howard Foster and John Keane are the best, with Lewis just behind......
I don't rate any of them - not compared to the best Yanks. Victor Loughlin..I can't remember his refing abilities but his scoring is awful. I recall some really random scores from him completely out of line with the other judges and logic.
How about these guys TFFP? Should suit your non-contact style of fighting down to a tee.... This content is protected This content is protected
