Roach underestimated Fedor, when he trained Arlovski too... ;)

I think that Roach is very concerned about hatton, he knows boxing and he has tried to prepare Pac to the best possible standard. 154 rounds of sparring!!!!! But as a trainer, he has always been a quiet reserved man. He is very outspoken about Manny knocking Ricky out. Honestly, within the first 3 rounds I think there could be a knockdown either way, dude to the level of hype and the fact that both fighters start fast (Hattons jab worried Floyd and the right hook against malinaggi.) But Hatton will be too big and strong and he should stop Pacquiao between 4 and 6. Don't pay much attention to what is said in the public. But Pac and Roach are worried, make no mistake about that!!!!

Roach is a no BS guy and tends to say things he thinks whether it be on tv or in private, like when manny was due to fight oscar and he said oscar was finished during the 24/7 series.
He wasnt hiding anything then and was proved right too, and thats what made me think he is underestimating hatton now with his comments.

Yes but he also said Hatton was horrendous when he started working with him. I think both are somewhat correct, I still to this day cant understand how Pac has been as successful with his style, other than his unusual strength and speed. A technician on par strength wise should be able to take him apart.

His speed is exceptional and he throws fast combinations.
Now im not saying for one minute that hatton matches him combinations, but hatton is deceptively quick and that is something I think will surprise pac on saturday the fact he cant box in and out like he did against the static de la hoya.

No I don't think so . . . just HYPING UP the fight and building his fighter's confidence.

Roach and everybody else should know that this is a war and a 50/50 fight.

Yes but Hatton throws wide punches and Pac throws straight punches. The straight punches get their first when the speed is equal. Hatton has to box step off and be a counterpuncher in angles. Once Pac gets going forward he bulldozes his opponents. Hatton has to offset that speed and momentum by moving off to the side. It has to be a tactical fight, a brawl doesnt favor Hatton in my opinion, there hasnt been enough time for Floyd Sr to correct Hattons flaws.

I want to clear 2 things up:

    First of all:

Roach has been openly saying what he thinks about the type of fighter ricky is, he's not trashtalking thats not his style. He just doesn't believe that hatton can bring anything different to the table. So in a way he's underestimating floyd if anything, and what floyd has brought to hattons game!

    Second of all:

Ricky is the bigger guy regardless of the stats because he's been at the weight longer, simple! It doesn't matter what the tape measure says he'll not only be bigger, he'll feel bigger and pacman will feel smaller!

The stats re height weight etc someone posted are irrelevent, otherwise why fight.

Why they play the game, it will be decided in the ring.

Some of the work they have been showing Hatton doing lately shows some things that flloyd senior obviously has been trying to add to hatton, the jab is becoming more prominent and the head movement is definately something that will make hatton more elusive and harder to hit, with billy graham as trainer there was far too much emphasis on brute strength and little work on defence.
Hatton would win fights but his face would end up looking worse than the guy he beat in most fights.
This like you said was due to hatton throwing wide punches and leaving himself open to the straight punch.
Hatton for a few fights neglected the jab which was one of his best punches in earlier fights, now you can see especially during the mallignaggi fight the jab was more prominent and the head movement and angles of attack were giving him more options and at the same time mallignaggi couldnt find him with the jab most of the night.

To some degree this is correct. Im not so sure about the bigger guy being Hatton. I think early on Pac had a lot of holes in his game, but it was compensated by his unusual strength at the lower weights. That being said Roach has improved Manny substantially over the course of the last 6 or 8 fights.
This is the first time, where I think the youth, speed and strength will be on the same level, with Manny being the better overall boxer. Both fighters started off with very similar styles in their careers. Full speed ahead with little emphasis on defense. Manny being a southpaw was tougher to hit and fought in more of a traditional boxer style, whereas Hatton was wide open.
So I think the smart fighter in this fight wins, and believe it or not, I believe the corner is going to be a huge factor. The trainer that sets the right game plan and gets his fighter to follow it will win. From what Ive seen on the 24/7 tapes, it looks like Mayweather has Hatton doing good things to offset Pac's style and improve his own. In contrast bringing in Michael Moorer to me was big mistake on Roaches part, it only brings confusion to the table, and Moorer is a very strong personality.

The reason i think he'll be bigger because its so much about how u feel not about what the scales or stats say, within reason of course. But Manny i from SE asia they're are naturally stocky people but they're not heavy handed. There is a difference.

I was an amateur and was always smaller than my opponents but i never felt smaller in the ring. I don't know how it works its just how i felt. So I know what ricky means when he says he's gonna be the bigger guy.
