I have never gave too much stock in fighters that win those Close Fights with NO CLEAR WINNER. Ya' know...the kinda' of fights that if you watch 10 times, you'll score it differently each time. Calzaghe over Hop, Cotto over Mosley, Floyd over Castillo...etc. All fights like that should be guaranteed rematches. Still Pissed that there was NO Oscar vs Tito II.
froch called out calzaghe repeatedly because he wanted a ticket that he hadn't earnt. taylor gave froch his crack because taylor badly needed a win at that time and froch was seen as a limited champion. that only backfired because of taylor's weaknesses which we all know about now, but it is to his credit that he (froch) has made the most of it. begs the question though - if froch was never serious about breaking out of the usualy euro-fighter mold and never made the effort to fight in the states (taylor fight gave him a 'pass' on that and subsequently an invite to the super six - since a taylor win was worth a whole lot more that bute had done) ... would froch still be sitting at home in the UK calling out people who achieved more than he has like junior witter did? i'll tell you one thing for sure, froch got a gift from taylor and he's made the most of it since.
You've got to give it to Froch, he never backs down from a challenge and he put in another very good performance again last night. Joe had all the talent in he world but not the heart and desire to test himself against the very best at times. Fighting Hopkins and Jones jnr years past their prime doesn't cut it for me. Perhaps this is a question better answered after Froch hangs up his gloves.
:rofl:rofl:rofl Great sig, I'd not seen that before. Froch's definitely got his number. As for the question in hand. I think it's a tougher one than people are making out. Calzaghe, obviously the better fighter but record wise Froch's is gonna **** all over his. I'll always prefer Froch to Calzaghe personally just because he is willing to fight absolutely anyone. You steal his bike, that's a fight. He's all about legacy and that's like a breath of fresh air in boxing at the moment where most fighters are more interested in the money and politics side of the game. It's disgraceful how little he's been exposed to the mainstream. Khan is a household name, people will know when he's fighting. If I went out in the street and asked people about Froch barely anyone would have heard of him WTF?! Pascal, Taylor, Dirrell, Kessler (close loss but still impressive) and Abraham all back to back and performing well in all 5 fights. Whatever some of the bitter Americans say he beat Dirrell. Dirrell fought a completely bull**** fight that night (as per ****ing usual) and didn't deserve ****.
Surely you look better than you are against weaker opposition .... Froch has fough alot better boxers than Calzaghe did !
true but i dont think many people would deny that calzaghe oozed talent - which is why him shafting the sport and leaving little legacy provokes so much negativity on any boxing board.
No. Froch has a while left before he comes close to calzaghe but climbing the ladder. Big downfall of his resume is loss to double vision past prime Kessler.......hhhmmmmm
Froch has beaten more prime to prime fighters in his career than JC did already! JC's best victory IMO is Kessler, and I think Kessler won as he was determined due to the overwhelming home support. Froch landed some amazing bombs on Kessler and under different circumstances I think Kessler would have been stopped
are you comparing them on resumes? because froch's win over taylor gives him a prime scalp joe never had.... there's two sides to this coin - is froch a better fighter than joe? no he isn't. hands down in my opinion. does he have a better resume? absolutely.
Froch already has a better resume. Calzaghe fought nothing bum bums mainly. With that said Calzaghe would have embaressed Froch
Not yet. And it's still pretty clear that Calzaghe was a much more skilled boxer. Hats off to Froch though :good
I don't want to take anything away from Froch. He was really really good tonight. But his resume doesn't at all compares to that of Calzaghe.
