All things considered, it has to be now doesn't it? I can't see SK getting back to the top level now whereas Froch did.. Beating Groves in front of 80,000 fans at Wembley stadium in May 2014, Kessler & Bute..
I think it is considering it was the only big win on his resume without any controversy. Kessler and Kovalev were ugly controversy fights. Abraham was a decent win. Other than that his resume is paper thin with the rest being a bunch of hacks.
I thought Kovalev won the first fight with Ward and didnt like what went on in the 2nd fight and thought it was very controversial but I think on paper the Kovalev win is the greater win
In terms of what the scalp meant at the time he beat them then Kovalev 1 was a more important win for Ward's legacy than anything else - disregarding, for a moment, the official result being disputed by many - as Kovalev was undefeated and undisputably recognized as the top fighter in the Light Heavyweight Division and Ward moved up to fight him. However none of Ward's defeated adversaries bounced back as strongly from their loss as did Froch so the victory against him has aged better.
I believe so....it was comprehensive and without controversy . He headbutted Kessler into submission and lost to Kovalev the first time and emasculated him the second time.
For me Kovalev won the first fight clearly against Ward and the second fight while Ward might have been on his way to winning anyway is controversial because he low blowed him enough times for a point deduction and for Kovalev to get a rest but instead was awarded a tko win for this and Kovalev was still possibly ahead on the cards at the time. Also there was a lot of talk about Kovalev hitting the drink and falling out with his trainer during his preparation. I would say Ward’s best win is either Kessler (who bounced back to beat Froch) or Froch who also went onto good things. I personally count the fashion which you beat someone as part of the win. I wouldn’t say Lara was one of Paul Williams best wins etc. I don’t think Ward would be unbeatable among this group of light heavyweights at the moment. I think he left the sport at the right time after a very good career and I think Kovalev should as well now.
I think so. I consider Kovalev to have won on points and won by DQ; that leaves Ward's best win as Froch.
Kovalev arguably should have got the nod in the first fight. Froch was always Wards best win. Even before last night.
