Yes and no, it depends in what way you mean.

If we're talking about names on paper then Froch is certainly the greatest name he has on his record.

But for where they were at the time, and the kind of rivalry they sort of developed over two fights, his Kovalev fights will be his most talked about and most remembered fights, Kovalev at the time Ward beat him, was bigger in the world of boxing than Carl Froch was at the time Ward beat him (although that is not the case now).

 

Kessler was a better victory than Froch.

 

Surely Paul Smith has to be his best win.

Don't see any problem with that . Froch was a very tough and consistent champion. Kovalev was a great win for Ward, but even in the Chilemba fight raised question marks about Kovalev's grit. Kovalev's a strong starter, but if he's even slightly thrown off his rhythm he starts gradually falling apart. This happened in both Ward fights and in the Alvarez fight. Froch never had this problem. Froch was tough as nails for every round of a fight. Groves found this out the hard way twice.
