..and that is your opinion, which differs from mine. Does that mean you think I didn't know the division before the S6? It isn't all about numbers on pages, the title fights stat doesn't really separate them anyway, they both lost once, having more title fights doesn't necessarily mean you're greater, just that you had more chances in some cases. Froch's level of opponent in his title fights which he won was higher than those of Kessler's also, regardless of how many were champions when he beat them. That's what's much more important here. You can make numbers work in your favour if you try hard enough but it doesn't tell the whole story. Froch was a warrior and avenging the loss to Kessler brings that factor back a little in his favour too, despite whatever opinions may be on Kessler being finished or not at the time. Finishing it all with the fights that were Froch-Groves was the icing on the cake for his career and although Mikkel Kessler was the better boxer, Carl Froch was the better fighter, who had a greater career, and is a greater name to have on your record.
You may be right.. Kessler & Froch are so damn close in so many departments tho. I just think overall Froch did more & Kessler was target practice for Ward with a dickie eye whereas Froch was prime & peak physical condition.
I'm a big fan of looking at what a fighter does after a fight as a good indicator of his level during the fight. Froch has gone on to win more big fights after Andre beat him. Kovalev has not. I think Kovalev's thudding power made him the more dangerous opponent in the ring, though.
whichevrer one you pick its clear that Ward has many possibles for best opponent, which shows how deep his resume is. Same with froch, several elite opponents. thats great because some fighters have only one really good win.
I do feel that Froch, Kovalev, and Kessler are all in the same ballpark of greatness. A logical write-up could be made arguing for any order among them.
Kovalev was top 5 on the P4P list and rated fighter of the year 2015. I think he was even as high as #2. Kessler wasn't P4P level fighter. Froch briefly entered the lower half of the P4P top 10. Froch , Kovalev and Kessler. 3 great wins right there
No. Andre's win over Carl was great, especially as he had a fractured hand. But moving up and fighting Sergey at LHW was much more dangerous. His rematch stoppage win easily eclipses the one over Carl.
I've spoken to John Scully. He told me the nightmare that Chad had in camp trying to drop back to SMW. I can't rate that win highly. Andre never forced him to go down to SMW though.
You're a stat man. You are absolutely obsessed by them. Froch and Kessler were of a similar level. You have told me time and again that Kessler was ill, faded and had eye trouble against Andre. Your words. The fight was also controversial to many. Against Carl, Andre beat him cleanly and clearly, with a double fracture of his hand. Taking the above into account and not just focusing on BoxRec statistics, his win over Carl has to be better than his win over Kessler. Regarding the TS' question, the answer has to be Kovalev. Andre was expected to beat Carl in the final of the Super Six. But to go up to LHW and stop Kovalev was unthinkable. It was a huge shock, from a guy who wasn't a puncher. Whilst I always thought that Kovalev was overrated, I'm sure that losing to Andre has had a huge effect on him psychologically. I'm certain that he'd have beaten Alvarez prior to fighting Andre Ward.
On what planet can beating a faded and ill Kessler, top knocking out a prime version of Kovalev at the weight above? You are talking nonsense.
