this man speaks sense! I dont think anyone in britain thinks hes a world beater, but the fact is he comes to fight and thus "most" of his fights are exciting!
Dirrell frustrated him. the first 9 round he completely spoiled the fight. He wanted to put on a show for his fans but couldnt. i have the fight a draw. i think that would have been the fair result as dirrell didnt do enough and froch didnt show enough adaptability
Some luck and determination go a long long way. Good matchmaking doesn't hurt either. Taylor wasn't exactly on a hot streak and the Dirrell was very green, fighting the champion in his own back yard in his first pro fight overseas, and still arguably won the fight. That Froch came away with a win is only due to Dirrell throwing the fight away with holding and whinging to the ref. Pascal is a b-level fighter who fought a d-level fight. Froch has said it himself that he feels that boxing is two guys standing in front of each other and trading. Put him in any situation other than that and he looks like what he is...a guy with mediocre talent, a decent chin, a good punch, and a lot of determination. And a good bit of luck.
To be fair he gets lucky quite a lot. I think basically he is hard as nails and relaxed in the ring when stalking which impresses the judges. Boxing is about playing the game not nessesarily the rules. you have to knwo how to get the decision, especially away from home. you can't expect to do "just enough" and win. You have to be good enough to put it out of the judges hands. A sign of a true champion
He spoiled the fight by not letting Froch put him on the ropes and beat him? Froch did NOTHING in any round of that fight. Even in the last 3 when Dirrell was more willing to trade Froch landed nothing of note. In fact, he landed LESS when Dirrell opened up. Froch COULD have cut off the ring. He could have moved Dirrell around by placing his punches more carefully. He could have thrown hooks to the body when Dirrell slid across the ropes with his hands above his head. He could have opened up when he had Dirrell in range. Instead he walked forward with his hands at his waist and then watched Dirrell run away along the ropes even when he COULD hit him. He was gunshy about throwing when he had Dirrell in range because despite his blood and guts persona Froch is a counterpuncher who relies on the other guy to give him openings and wear himself out by throwing first. Dirrell was fast enough and didn't commit enough that Froch could counterpunch, so he look lost. Froch is a terrible aggressor. And untalented.
I agree that if Dirrell engaged more and planted his feet he probably would have won. the point is he didnt.
To a certain extent I'd agree, but in boxing, unless you opponents gets injured or cut, you make your own luck. My response about Froch winning his last thee fights against top class opponents was in response to a poster who stated Froch was 'talentless'. My point was you don't beat Pascal,Taylor and Dirrell consecutively without haviong something going for you
wow im sure if you try hard you can find other boxers who are fringe titleholders in some lower weight classes that are worse than the 3 mentioned...they're not the worst ive ever seen by far...look around more
btw, this wasn't meant as a 'hate' thread; I actually quite like Urango. It was just about fighters who've done well in spite of not having a lot of boxing fundamentals.
Froch is doing something that boxing fans have always dreamed about. He fights everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So, why the hate? Because he beat Dirrell, a coward who runs, holds, complains, and falls down on canvas.
Id say these 3 are around the same caliber, although I think PFB Urango and Ponce deleon hit harder than FRoch. Actually just by watching them I might even go with Urango and Ponce deleon. But Frochs wins Over Taylor and Pascal got to count for something even though Froch is atop my **** list, his awkwardness and power can be effective against lot of guys, although i think Dirrell beat him easy, and he will get his ass kicked throughout this tourney hed still beat the lower top 10 of the division.
Actually public sentiment sometimes holdssway of the history books. IE No one thinks Holyfield got a draw with lewis, though the hisotry books say he did or no one thinks Foreman beat Shultz. In boxing, more than any other sport the publics opinion of the fight holds the ability to influence the historical record and memory of a fight. Keith
That post makes a ton of sense. I'm surprised more people haven't made that correlation, but it's dead on. As for the original topic of the thread, hell no Froch's not worse than those two, but I could see someone placing them about the same general level. Ugly or not, effectiveness has to be taken into account and Pascal,Taylor in the US, and Dirrell is as good or better than any 3 fight title stretch Urango and De Leon have had. Sometimes I wonder if people would really prefer a gorgeous loss over an ugly win.
