Think about the shots he took in the Wilder fighters. Deontay Wilder is obviously the hardest one punch knock-out artist in boxing history. Fury even stated he had a concussion and I've never seen a big man who is a two-time and lineal heavyweight champion suffer a punch to the head which causes their entire body to radiate. Imagine if that was Usyk who was on the receiving end of that lethal shot? People also forget Francis Ngannou was predominately a striker as he did boxing before getting into MMA a sport which he went on to become heavyweight champion in. Also look at the sheer size of the man who makes your George Foreman's and Sonny Liston's of this world look like cruiserweights in comparison. Also I find it funny how everyone was excusing Wladimir Klitschko's loss to Tyson Fury being due to having just had his first child and Wlad was also reportedly having marital issues with his Hollywood star-wife. But yeah, thanks to anyone for taking their time to read this thread, just some observations I thought I would share.
People were excusing Klitschko the loss because he was 39-years old, lost in of the most dull heavyweight fights in history, and Fury did not even rematch the man who as far I'm aware he was obliged to.
I think anyone that has done boxing even half way serious amateur or pro has suffered a concussion at some point. If a boxer never had a concussion he has not been trying.
Yes correct, I only bring it up as I remember Fury making a big deal about it at the time. Before linking up with the Kronk Gym Fury had a very elusive style which his Uncle Peter Fury installed in him. Tyson Fury fights more like he did in his earlier fights now.
It's entirely possible. That third fight against Wilder was very rough. He took a lot of damage from those knockdowns and subsequent shots.
Maybe, but honestly besides the bad showing last week what is Fury doing differently now compared to the past Personality wise he's same old Fury
His battles with Wilder was like watching your Pokemon go up against one with a high ATTACK stat getting like 2-3 critical hits on it. Your hoping that its not been KTFO and it usually is haha, but sometime it survives. Fury is like that because as far as I'm aware, nobody has eaten 2-3 right hands on the noggin from Wilder and got back up. It'd be no surprise if Fury took some lasting damage from that third fight though given the amount of punishment Wilder gave him.
Maybe. There seems to be a wide genetic variation among boxer in how much neurological damage they display from punishment in the ring. Some guys like Foreman, Mercer, Lamotta etc can take the kitchen sink fight after fight for decades and not have any problems once their career is over. I used to see George Chuvalo train at Sullys boxing gym here in Toronto with his son Mitch (the one that survived) up until like 2010. Dude was still strong as an ox and didn’t seem to have any problems with his speech, although I know his health has deteriorated in recent years but he’s pushing 90. Then there are guys like Riddick Bowe and Tommy Morrison who show signs of brain damage in their late 20s- early 30s. With Fury I think the main thing that’s holding him back is that he doesn’t live the life between fights, getting fat like a pig and drinking excessively has slowed his once quick legs and cobra like reflexes. Maybe brain damage is affecting him too, time will tell.
Let's just say that since he hooked up with Sugar Hill and became a 'KO artist big dog', he's taken more punishment than ever. Even in the second Wilder fight he got caught by RHs in the beginning as he pushed forward. People just act like Wilder didn't land because Fury didn't go down. The only thing saving him from brain damage lately is his inactivity. If Fury had fought a couple of AJ fights with 'Kronk' style, imagine how much damage he would have taken on top of the Wilder and Naganou fights.
It’s not his brain that’s hampered, it’s his sudden case of female dog syndrome. The middleweight has him avoiding post-fight interviews, ducking fight dates like it’s the plague and losing to debutant ‘boxers’. Keep him out of his Ferrari and off the freeway, that’s all I can say.
He was definitely more defensively responsible under his uncle and Ben Davison. I also think he’s been forced to adopt a more aggressive, basic style due to his athleticism declining. Instead of slipping and rolling with the opponents shots to avoid damage he now leads with a punch and then looks to quickly close the distance with a clinch to avoid counters. Kind of like a less polished version of Wlad Klitschko.
To be honest, his body didn't radiate from the punch itself. He tighted his guard which caused his right hand to hit the fat and make it jiggle
