Who can really decide on this? Showtime announced him as Lineal but lots of people think he isnt anymore.

Nobody was talking about being lineal a few months ago all of a sudden Fury is lineal champ?? my understanding was in the word lineal , which means point by point , no deviation . Which is ironic since its mean't to be easy to figure the lineal .

Only by defeating a lineal champ can you become a lineal champ and since lineal has been broken several times. Lewis was the last lineal champ. Now there is no lineal champ until someone unifies the division by holding all 4 main bodies ie WBA , WBC , IBF and WBO can make the claim to be lineal champ starting a new lineage.

We can have 3 claimants (Wilder , Fury and Joshua) but none of them are lineal until they hold all four belts simultaneously.

Nah Fury and his fans been saying all along he's the lineal champ.

Just because the boxing community chose not to listen, doesn't mean it didn't happen.

It was accepted that Wlad was the lineal champ. Fury beat him. Fury took a break and is now back.

Do you hear Joshua or Wilder disputing Fury when he calls himself lineal? No. He said it about 103 times infront if Wilder, and Wilder said nothing.

If the top two fought in the meantime the winner could have claimed it. But they didn't ... so I see Fury as still holding it.

Technically he probably is, but I'd say no.

Think this is the issue with the Lineal thing - there are no set rules we all agree upon. For me, if you're out the ring more than two years, you cannot possibly be the lineal.

This. He beat Wlad, who was the lineal champ at the time, so until somebody beats Fury he’s still the champ.

True I just think personally the lineal cannot really be entertained as even Klitschko was never lineal I think because its been so long someone must be called one.

Besides Fury left let's not forget and his claimant as lineal (right now) is pure nonsense , put it this way hypothetically if Lewis returned tomorrow for a one off exhibition he could still claim to be the lineal champ and Fury would not have a leg to stand on.

If we think Fury is lineal then it's a weak linearity since it only consists of him beating Klitschko none of this tracing back to the first heavyweight boxer .

His claim as true lineal is as true as Queen Elizabeth claiming lineal decent from Edward the Confessor.

Fury retired tho and Wlad was still in the game doesn't a technical basics of actual active fighters actually claim a stronger claim?, and AJ beat Wlad and Fury still at that time was retired . I'm not claiming AJ the lineal champ but his claim could be as if not potentially more stronger than Fury ? . Lewis could walk back in the ring and claim to be the true lineal and Fury's claim goes right outside the window on that basis ?.

+ Fury never took a break as you say , he left and vacated , he even said so , also doesn't drugs strip you of being lineal (I mean drugs strip you of any belt and possibly your license) champ ? Seems strange to have one set of rules for HW champ belt holder and another for lineal ? Or is that too much sense? .

At this point titles and belts are somewhat meaningless. We have a triangle and whoever prevails from that in the best fashion is and was the man. With the accepted consensus that the three of them are the current unrivalled best of the bunch. Fury looks in the best position of the three at this moment for his performance and making it into the ring with another from the triangle, but could quickly change.

Joshua has done more than enough to be considered 'the man' of the division. But with Fury back on form, he's the top challenger.

There's nothing wrong with Fury calling himself lineal champ or Showtime calling Fury lineal champ. I wince when Fury or Wilder claim they are 1# and #2.

    He wasn't very active though.
You could say the same about Lennox Lewis
