Well since Fury lost plain and simple how is he the lineal anything? We still have a bunch of angry Brits and other people who clearly only like Fury for a obvious reason complaining about the lost? Tyson Fury landed 84 punches compared to 71 punches to Wilder. That is 7 punches a round to 5.9. In 9 out of 12 rounds Fury landed more punches than Wilder but in 7 of those rounds he landed 1 or 2 more punches. You don't beat the so called champion by running. at least 7 rounds in this boring fight should of been scored even. So with the 2 knock downs against him Fury lost plain in simple. Another boring fight by Fury and his biased fans making excuses for him. Tyson Fury is completely unskilled, throwing walking arm punches doesn't make you a skilled boxer. Deontay Wilder is even more unskilled and just like Anthony Joshua has knocked out only old men and tomato cans.
My take on this is that the heavyweight title lineage has been broken by the fact that Fury retired, was stripped/ gave up his titles, got positively tested for drugs and then refused subsequent PED testing. Too many question marks over the validity of his latter career, prior to his retirement. Add to that the draw with Wilder, irrespective of your opinion of the fight, just too many ifs, buts and maybes....... I feel that the next unified, undisputed champion should then begin a new heavyweight champion lineage and will then become THE man to beat in the Heavyweight division, no questions asked. It's ultimately what the Heavyweight division has been crying out for since Lennox Lewis's reign.
What's the "obvious reason" you talk about? I hope you're not making assumptions about people you don't know the first thing about. Everyone thought Wilder lost, that's everyone, of all colours and backgrounds friend. Unless you think Wilder won purely for 'obvious reasons'?
The belts AJ has came from Klitschko, but he didnt win them from klitschko. Fury took them from Klitschko and is still unbeaten so really AJ has to beat Fury it's that simple.
No. Once you've announced you're retired, you're no longer lineal. Otherwise Tunney would still be lineal.
How could he have fought Fury when Fury wasn't boxing? Wladimir had the belts L Lewis held but didn't win them from him
In a situation like this, like Fury’s, the definition of the term lineal is subjective. I assume the Ring magazine is the one that most people consider the authority on who is the linear But it all boils down to however long you, personally, think someone can be out and inactive and still retain the title There needs to be some concrete timeframe for the term to be defined by, if they announced retirement, then back out, does that Play a factor, etc
@bailey - in large part your thread (and many similar I've seen across social media, but this thread in particular) helped motivate me to do this. For better or worse, of course. This content is protected
Never discredited it just asked some questions He is my favourite HW. I just wanted some further idea of how people view lineal I'm probably the biggest fan on this forum
Now this is what I'm talking about, exactly, Fury retired for 2 1/2 years, he said he was never coming back, at that moment it ended. also the fact Fury was banned for testing positive for a banned substance surely puts another nail in this coffin.
Basically this, his retirement was legitimate, how can you say it wasn't? 2,5 year is a long time, the landscape has changed significantly since then, his lineage has perished. Did some people really watch Fury-Seferi and thought to themselves, yep this is my lineal champion! The man to beat
Let's say Seferi won, let's imagine Fury got injured and had to retire, it still would have been a win for Seferi. Then would Seferi have been the "lineal champion"? Would these same people agree and say Seferi was the man who beat the man? GTFO LOL
