Worst HW champ in a boxing sense. Definitely not. Worst for the sport…. There could be an argument made there.
This duck, unless the fight actually eventuates this year ... is going to dog him right through his life and into the history of the sport. It's going to come up in every conversation about him. When his hype-machine is not longer operating and when he's being assessed in retrospect without current media attention/ media performing, I think perspectives will be much less accommodating. Head-to-head This content is protected would be a very tough fight for anyone, but in the end his cv is what it is, and relegates him historically. Even if the fight goes ahead and Fury wins ... unless he dominates, people are probably still going to be fed up with his BS. It's a pity because Fury has so many good attributes inside and outside of the ring, but essentially boxing is a sport, and people in it are rightly evaluated by factual sporting outcomes above anything else.
Usyk is P4P the best fighter in the world and probably the greatest cruiserweight ever, he`d be a match for any fighter his size.
Who else remembers how Dillian Whyte was a top 10er, and the “Dark Horse” of the division before Fury iced him? *raises hand* The Usyk fight falling through sucks, and it does seem to be a duck by Fury from the knowledge we have about the situation… but can we stop the hyperbolic revisionist tearing down of the man’s whole career and level as a fighter?
Fury is the number 1 heavyweight of his era so anyone that says he's the worst heavyweight ever is a fool. Fury has a chance to be considered a great if he fights and beats Usyk, AJ and perhaps Joyce for good measure.
This is about the 11th time I've posted this: Fury and Usyk will not be fighting each other next. C'mon, folks.. it's 2023.. we know why boxing is in the shitter: Boxers won't fight each other when they're supposed to.
Not the worst ever, not even close. He might stack up on the list of the most cowardly thoug, running away from a middleweight.
To be fair, I think it was only me (and a handful of others) arguing for the Dillian Whyte fight on this board, and even I gave him little to no chance against Fury. Most said he didn't deserve the fight after being KO'd by Povetkin. My argument was always about him working his way into position across a number of years, therefore he deserved the fight. But you are correct, he was a top 10 fighter.
