Is Fury vs Whyte a huge event in the UK?

Not a big event at all

Fury is of course a big star but not quite a household name, and Whyte has almost no profile. Combine that with terrible promotion

I don't read too much into the ticket sales, it's a heavyweight title fight on British soil of course people are going to go. No doubt there'll be a good crowd there all tanked up on the night and will look good on TV, unless it pisses down with rain on the night

Anecdotally, I have been offered tickets by 4 people I know, none of which are going themselves but bought them just to sell. They wouldn't be offering them to me if they could sell them easily

Not a big event at all is just a nonsense....

Any event that gets 90k+ people through the gates is a big event - period....

What's your definition of "big event"?

Pretty big deal over here in the uk. Lots of tickets sold and loads of casuals interested. I usually gage if it’s a big one on the amount of family members messaging me on who I think will win the fight.

I work near Wembley stadium, definitely a buzz around the place but nothing like it was for the euros last summer.

imo this fight could’ve had more interest if whyte had taken part in the build up and if the undercard wasn’t so poor. Yarde in an eliminator or a British title fight on the show would’ve been fine. Hey ho

Like I said, a heavyweight title fight at Wembley is always going to sell but this isn't an all encompassing, everyone talking about it kind of event.

Outside of people I know that are into boxing, and Talksport, I haven't heard anyone talking about it.

Of course it's a big fight, but it's not a big event.

The average man and woman on the street aren't talking about it, the hype isn't there.

I'm not trying to **** on either fighter is just the truth. This event just hasn't captured the imagination.

When Bruno fought Tyson the whole country was talking about it. When Eubank fought Benn everyone knew about it. Even AJ Klit was a bigger event. These were big boxing events that had the general public engaged

You'd think Warren would have gotten either Yard or Dubois on the card to get more eyeballs on them, but nope. Only that jacked up CW Adeleye...

Literally every pub locally to me that is showing the fight is booked up and I know people who are not into boxing that are going to it .

Don’t know who you’ve been talking to but Fury absolutely is a household name in the UK, his popularity has rocketed since he knocked Wilder out in 2020. My work colleagues DKSAB but know who Tyson Fury is, my mum who has absolutely zero interest in the sport and thinks “boxing is violent” knows who Tyson Fury is. You can walk into any pub or barbers anywhere and strike up a conversation with a stranger about Fury.

Although you’re right about Whyte, he’s pretty much a nobody, you have to be reasonably hardcore to know much about him, casuals don’t have a clue about him.

A lot of people are living in some sort of pre 2018 world, where yes - Tyson Fury was not a household name...

The man is a household name now, we are in 2022.... He has books, is on mainstream TV shows, has appeared on Joe Rogan, has been in the WWE for ****s sake...

He is a global mega star.

He needs to fight for a couple more years at least to really cement that though, eh.

Hahaha I've had to keep riling myself up about how bad the undercard is to convince myself not to crack and buy it! I'll try for a good stream I reckon! Enjoy the fight mate - if you wake up in time!

Exactly. Need a better undercard for me to purchase.
