Is Fury's comeback at all comparable to Jeffries?

What's up people! I've been away on holiday for a week and ngl, I missed you all and this place a little bit.

A thought popped into my head while I was a way when I found out Fury dropped over 100 pounds to make his comeback the other week and was interested in getting your thoughts on how comparable if it all it was to Jeffries comeback.

Some things I consider when questioning the validity of this comparison where that Fury's time out of the ring wasn't as long as Jeffries, he wasn't returning against the current champ and we have a lot more experts and information available in the modern day to aid this kind of drastic change in weight.

I don't think so. Jeffries came back to fight the champ, Fury came back to have an exhibition with a no hoper , hand picked small guy in a tuneup bout,

Funny I had been thinking about it compared to Sullivan coming back after heavy drinking.

Fury is coming back still young, Jefferies was old, Fury back through personal choice, Jefferies through Great White Hope malarky.

Jefferies had chosen retirement and was settled on his farm, Furys time away was 'enforced'.

Both shifted lot of blubber so there is a comparible there, but there are plenty of folks attending diet clubs etc
nowadays who are not athletes, not got the access to nutition/exercise experts that Fury has, who are shedding huge amounts of weight so Furys weight loss is good but not comparable to early 20th century Jefferies weight loss as that would have been truly old skool methods.

Jeffries was champion, then got very fat, then lost most of the weight, made a comeback, and it ended very badly.

Fury was champion, then got very fat, then lost most of the weight, made a comeback, and it will probably end very badly.

On a superficial level, there are some similarities.

Probably more in common with Foreman, although not as lengthy a lay off.

Both took a hiatus while still apparently in their physical prime, both ballooned in weight, and both had some kind of "spiritual journey" (if you can call Fury's that) before they refocused on boxing and got back in the ring.

Both also looked overweight and sloppy in their comeback fights against substandard opposition.

Whether the similarities end there remains to be seen, but I think we need to see a couple more fights from Fury before we get a clearer picture.

No. Fury would have to be out of the game for 6 years, 35 years old, and fighting Joshua to compare.

He reneged on his gambling debts and Rickard had to pay them so the fight could be held in Reno.

Jeffries trained for 18 months for the Johnson fight,I don't know how long Fury has been training.Fury is 5 years younger than Jeffries was, he has snorted coke while out I don't think Jeffries took drugs.
