Gamboa ain't overhyped or underhtped,he gets some hate and some hype,it's pretty balanced. He will be big
I say hes slightly overhyped, but I guess its natural since hes offensive minded and its easier to sell. The reason why I say overhyped is becouse I think theres more talented boxers out there who look more compleate but just dont get enough exposure just becouse of their different style. The other night I cought a glimpse of DelaRosa (welter), dude looked great against very decent and experienced oponent. I might be bias tho since Im a sucker for technicaly sound fighters (both defensivly and offensivly). Hype is good, but too mutch hype and it overshadows some realy good talents who are making their way up hard way.
Most of Gamboa's hyped is due to how good he looks for a guy with 12 fights. Have you ever heard of Cuba's amateur boxing??? Have you ever asked yourself how long Gamboa have been boxing. Of course, amateur and Pro are not the same thing. But Amateur is where you get most of the tools you need to become a good pro. I always say Cuba doesn't have amateur boxers. They have UNPAID PROS!!!! The only reason they stay amateurs so long is because the government doesn't allow them to become pros. This guy have more boxing experience than many boxer with more than 25 pro fights. I dont think he is going to get much better. But his opposition is definetly going to get better. And they will expose him
Well... who's the best prospect with only 10+ fights then? And based on what? Of course calling someone the most EXCITING prospect is based on how many can see how good he is. Gennady Golovkin (a talent You started to hype :tong ), a truly gifted fighter is under the radar not because he's not hyped (Gamboa wasn't hyped in his first fights because Arena never had the hype machine) but because he's not creating so much excitement that Versus, ESPN, Showtime, HBO, Gary Shaw, Don King and Golden Boy Promotions go toe to toe just to get him... BTW Gamboa faced a legitimate puncher in De Jesus, who's not so much (or not at all) lower in class than Prescott, a fighter who was a nobody with a great KO percentage until he met the weak-chinned Khan. Then again... Gamboa's hype is coming from the inside, and as a few of us who were able to see his very first pro fights (vs. great competition for a beginner), we were the first to tell the world how good he is. And after showing some issues that weren't evident in the first fights, I can still say with confidence: he's the most exciting young prospect out there.
80% of the hate is because of the hype. If no one hyped him as a future p4p star YET, we would all just be excited by him like crazy, and no one at all would hate him.
It's more than possible that he will be a p4p star,he looks great altough there will come a time when he will get KOed.
every now and then, when I found TFFP's post, I write something about Bute everytime:hey.Things are good between us since he recognise that Pavlik would TKO Calzaghe late in the 11th round:good
The Gennady thing was a joke to get under the skin of Pavlik fans; just look at the title! And answer me this: do you think he is clearly the BEST prospect out there, and possibly the best in a while, as many here argue? Let's have it, BB! (Because he's definitely hyped as clearly the best for a long time here on ESB!):deal
I hope I'm wrong, but I think we'll see his carrer unfolding similar to Zab Judahs, lots of talent and hype, but some tragic flaws that will keep him from obtaining his full potential.
There's a reason Judah isn't a p4p star. He gets KOed, KDed or hurt badly enough to make him slower and less adventurous offensively, and he loses fights as a result against p4p fighters who aren't even in the Top 10! It's possible he becomes as good as Judah and not better, just more exciting.
My answer would be: he's the most exciting and I'm not saying that he would beat everyone from JMM to PacMan. But just for the argument: Who is the best prospect with 10+ fights in your opinion, just for us to compare him to Gamboa...
