It isnt everything you need but he already looks to have the ability of say a young Mosley, who also didnt have the greatest defense I dont think Gamboa has terrible defense, he just takes chances, similar to Hamed in that respect. But he can use good head movement and movement to make him illusive its in that regard. I believe when he steps up he will be a little more cautious He hasnt been terribly hurt by any shots that have floored him so his chin is looking good despite hitting the canvas I think we'll agree to disagree though, I'm thoroughly on the Gamboa to be a superstar express
Judah has mental issues though and has been fighting bigger men as he should be at 140, who knows if Gamboa will mentally breakdown the same way. Gamboa does some things better than Judah and Judah was P4P top10 himself prior to Baldomir and was a prodigy of a talent
He's overhyped by some, but not that many. Who is overhyping him? Most people on the poll say that he is overhyped. HBO was saying that he is overhyped. Since far more people think he is overhyped than underhyped, doesn't that by definition make him not overhyped? Anyways, his offensive arsenal is amazing and spectacular. It deserves all praise, and of course some people are going to look at it and drool. There are questions about his defense and chin, but he is stepping up in competition a lot faster than true hypejobs such as Khan, so those questions will be answered. All in all, we should be happy he is getting HBO exposure, as long as he keeps off of ppv for a while. Overhyped or underhyped, I am satisfied with him headlining BAD cards.
Well, most prospects with 10+ fights are not 26, and they don't have half the experience that Gamboa has. This is the really worrying thing; Gamboa isn't getting much better at all, in any way. He's pretty much as good as he will ever be. Other prospects with 10+ fights get better every time they fight. The reason there might be few is because by the time they're 26, they're champs or contenders already! Look at Bradley, for example. This only 10+ thing is really muddying the waters. It's just not a fair comparison. You are asking for names, and I'm not ducking the question, but ask yourself this, how many good prospects get 1/10th of the hype Gamboa is getting? Let me boxrec some names: How often is Mares' name mentioned? Juan Manuel Lopez has 2-3 fans here, and otherwise, nobody talks about him. Two people have Linares avatars, but that's about it. Who the hell is William Kickett? I never heard of him! Prescott we'd never have heard about had he not beaten Khan - how do we know he couldn't go far? Maybe he's the next Berrio, with a chin! Anthony Peterson? Is he any good? Never heard of him. Bradly we only heard about after he became Champ. Koji Numata; does he have a padded record? I never heard of him. Is Berto a hype job? Only the Americans talk about him. Kirkland, Angulo, etc. we only talk about because they fight on the same card/night as Gamboa. Golovkin...we never talk about him, yet he keeps winning. Dirrell and Ward, no one talks about them, yet they've stepped up in class. Who the hell is Shumenov? Why is he ranked so high by boxrec? Is he a hype-job? We never talk about him. Alexeev? 3 people talk about him in the Euro section. He's only fought four more times than Gamboa. Dimitrenko is 26, just like Gamboa...we rarely mention his name. All of these prospects together are mentioned less than Gamboa. That isn't fair, is it? You don't get more than 2-3 people who think any of these can make the Top 25 p4p, nevermind become p4p No.1. How does that compare with Gamboa and his hype? See what I mean? Let's assume Gamboa is much better than any of these. Even so, quite a few of these are more proven than he is, and they don't have his experience. Still unbeaten, though. But they don't get 1/10th of the hype he does.
Doesn't keep his hands up, no headmovement, lunges in with his chin in the air ... and his chin is in doubt ... I say that he's overhyped. He has good hand speed and good strength, but as I seen last night if there is someone who can match him in speed can give him trouble. I also seen that he has bad balance ...
Gamboa has temperamental issues; he's reckless, he's cocky (in the ring), he lets his heart get the better of him, knowing full well he's chin isn't very good. Great for the fans, great for boxing, might not get very far though, even if he does make a hell of a lot of money in the meantime, Khan-style.
i'm a fan, but i think he's over hyped by some of his backers. guys often go into hyperbole about him. aside from that i'd say the hype is about right for his talent. i dont think he's a almighty conquror, and certainly realize he has flaws that need to be corrected.
Then again, he's making his own hype inside the ring. You can turn the hype machine and hype money from Khan or JCCJr to another fighter, but the Gamboa hype is based solely on a fighter and his performances. Talent combined with exciting style doesn't always produce results, but I could predict 1,5 year ago that Gamboa might get more HBO dates, fans and give more exciting moments in 2,5 years (even with 3 losses) than someone like Peterson or Golovkin is 5, staying protected and undefeated. But we agree more or less, I'm just very excited about Gamboa despite (or because of) knowing both his talent level and flaws. But I was one from the first day who said Marinez is getting very far if he live up to his talent level, I have my Shumenov and Alexeev threads. And really for the last time. The difference between them and Gamboa is that he's creating something inside the ring that gets HBO's attention. Is Golovkin a KO waiting to happen? How far can Dirrell go? Will Dimitrenko get DQ'd often using illegal tactics? These are questions people don't give a flying f*ck about and because they haven't showed the world how good they really are. As You've said: Gamboa goes all out in every fight. That's why he's getting HBO main events and Golovkin is fighting on untelevized undercards. HELLO!!! It's professional boxing we're talking about. Getting a lot of heat, hate > not getting any response at all
His record speaks for himself, stopped the journeyman that KD Dawson, stopped the journeyman that Bute stopped in the 2nd and outboxed Montell Griffin on his 6th pro fight, nobody does that, this guy should be on yv not other guys
A fighter is meant to be cocky and go for the kill. KDs do not equal a bad chin, especially when they are flash, when has he looked groggy? Hes fighting decent opponents now too
YES! But just because he's making great money and getting great exposure for being the most exciting guy around doesn't mean he should be hyped so much as the best prospect around. All I was saying. People disagree with me, though; many think he is so good that he deserves all the hype and some, that he's better than he is hyped to be! You don't even have to know anything about boxing to see he's exciting, right? No point in hyping honey as sweet. Hyping honey as good for you, now that's a different matter.
But Dec! That's professional boxing all about! He's doing something even better than you would imagine if there are better prospects and fighters... and he's getting the 'best...' labels, the exposure and money... :happy
