i admit, he has fast handpeed, he is imo the fastest boxer right now handspeed wise... but does he really have the power to compete with the top dogs in the division once he steps up

i mean if you don't have great power, regardless of your blind speed... your not going to do that well in boxing, against top 5-10 fighters

Pernell Whitacker wasnt a big puncher either. If your implying that Russell is feather fisted your wrong.

Mayweather doesn't hit that hard, neither do Ward or Bradley. You don't need elite power to be a top fighter.

Plus, Gary Russell has pretty good power when he sits down on his punches.

i would say he has average power. but he trows very quick precision shots and combos and thats enuff to make u an attraction. hes still young and i think he will gain more power when he gets older or moves up in weight.

hes a good fighter one of the only prospects out there who's actually impressed me. And he's got some power , see his last fight.

Ward has jack all power, but was able to make Froch look vulnerable. You don't need 1-punch-KO power to be effective -- careful timing of punches does the trick, a fact which is accentuated when a guy has as much speed as GRJ. Speed kills.

When guys walk into the boxing gym it's all about how hard they can hit. Soon they realise that if they can hit their opponent with a quick punch they didn't see coming, it's far more likely to be effective than a huge haymaker.

hes got the tools to be special. the only thing i dont like about him is that he seems lazy in the ring. if he stepped on the gas a little bit more, he would have more kos.

exactly. i can see Russell winning alot fights by TKO or cut stoppages based on how quick he is. like u said, U dont need 1 punch KO power to be elite.

Russell's very promising. He has some defensive and head movement issues, and I wonder how he'll do late in fights and against guys who can back him up, but his speed and talent looks top notch.

He has a chance as long as he does not go past 130lbs personally he should stay at 126lbs as his body lets him in the same fashion Hagler and Hopkins did at MW and Calzaghe at SMW. There will be very good fights for him in the future such as Chris John who is also with Goldenboy and Abner Mares in the future if he moves up to 126 who is also with GPB. He can also fight guys like Garcia, Donaire, Rigondeaux who is at or around 126lbs too if Arum gets his act together. As some stated Russell Jr. is so skilled that he does not need power to get his wins he could just outbox you.
