Close, but not quite, Usyk's movement will give Gassiev fits, and believe me, he'll be moving, Usyk knows he can't KO Gassiev, and will be unsure if he can take Gassiev's power, all he has to do is be a little more fleet footed and defensively sound that Lebedev, and he wins this, and since Usyk is a lot more fleet footed and defensively sound than Lebedev, he's got this.
Hard to say as they haven't yet fought, but they seem to be within the same ballpark with Usyk having already more easily proven himself against similar levels of opposition...
Hes a step behind, but its been clear to me for the longest time, he's number 2 in the division. Hes got a hell of a shot at beating USYK in the finals!
Admittedly didn't watch the entire Gassiev/Doriticos fight, but from what i saw, I think Usyk is on a different level.
Gassiev's body shots pose the biggest threat to Usyk IMO. Usyk's movement and boxing ability should be enough for him to win a UD, but Gassiev is a top fighter and he'll push him hard all the way.
Gassiev is better than Breidis. It should be a close competitive fight, especially with how porous Usyk defense has looked lately. I still expect Usyk to box his way to a decision, but he may be in trouble if Gassiev gets in close and hits him with the same shots that Breidis was.
Two weeks ago I would have agreed with you resoundingly, but Usyk's movement and defense was a little less than convincing against Briedis whereas Gassiev was incredible tonight. His shot selection and accuracy was top notch but more specifically his counter-punching and back-foot game (especially in that second round) far exceeded my expectations and went against the notion that he's just a CW version of Golovkin; talented but a little rudimentary. Gassiev showed a dimension to his game we haven't really seen before tonight. I thought Dorticos' reach and speed would provide a far sterner test for Gassiev but I only ended up giving the Cuban two rounds such was the nature of Murat's performance. Add in the fact that Murat is arguably the best body puncher in the sport (certainly up there with Spence) and I think this is a much closer fight than I originally anticipated.
Definitely on the same level. Since Gassiev has better footwork, faster hands and better combinations than Briedis. And Gassiev clearly has the power to leave Usyk in a crumpled heap on the canvas. Just wait until Gassiev gets Usyk in a corner, and then no one will be asking this question anymore.
He has a great engine for sure but the only time I've ever seen him hurt was from a body shot and Gassiev's body shots are very heavy.
This. Usyk only needs to have a slight lapse in concentration and Gassiev can change the fight with 1 punch. Can't wait for this fight.
