Psh how could Ray Robinson be forgotten?
    Larry Holmes
    Ezzard Charles
    Ray Leonard
    Roberto Duran
    Marvin Hagler
    Mike McCallum
    Julio Cesar Chavez
Benny Leonard? Kind of hard to determine without film , but I'd say its I'd a safe bet.

Tunney was the complete package. He's not alone though. elite power is missing but he could hit and of course size by today's standards. His footwork was exceptional, his punch placing was perfect, chin heart everything.

When I look at the films of him,I marvel at his skillset. He'd have been a handful for a PRIME Jack Dempsey. Would he have actually beaten a 1919 Manassa Mauler ? Not sure, but a classic battle would have ensued.

No, a fundamentally sound fighter doesn't carry his hands so low. His defense wasn't that great.

No would be my answer, though he's a very complete fighter.

Ray Robinson and Wilfredo Gomez were first to my mind.

He really wasn't. Any boxing trainer will tell you that. And they'll tell you not to to try the **** did Ali did, or else you'll get battered. He only got away with it, cos he's freaking Ali, and the vast majority of us humans are not gifted with the reflexes that he had.

    True.

And Tunney was probably the preceeding HW most like him, so...

Fair enough. But you could also argue that Tunney benefited from not having even half as challenging opposition as Robinson(Greb fights aside, in which he had several advantages regardless) and yet still didn't look half as good. He wasn't blowing people's minds on his way up like Robinson was.
