Absolutely not. Foreman is ranked number 9 all time on the Ring's 100 greatest punchers. Thats the elite of the elite. 68 kos in 76 wins, fought during the competitive Ali eras of talented HW koing everybody and then came back an old man still with staggering powerful in his fists. I can't see any argument to take away what George achieved.

Lets what see what actual fighters who faced George's power said.

George Chuvalo on the hardest puncher he faced: "George Foreman was very heavy handed and there was a different feel to his shots. The best ****ogy would be Joe Frazier and Jerry Quarry hitting you was equivalent to being struck by a car at 100 mph, but when George landed it was like being hit by a mac truck at 50 mph. There was more weight in his punches."

Evander Holyfield: At 2.08 question- Who would you say is the hardest puncher you have ever faced?
Answer from Evander: "The guy that hit me the hardest was George Foreman. He hit me one time in the eleventh round and I came back to the corner and said did he knock all my teeth out? And I knew in the game of boxing they will tell you anything to continue. So in the twelth round I held him a lot, and in the press conference they say you had to hold on. I said I beat him in the eleventh round Im not gonna let him knock me out because Im too self centered to feel I had to hold, Im going to do whatever I can to win. I hold him for 15-20 seconds....I was throwing rocks he was throwing bolders.
3.48 Question: So you say he (Foreman) is a bigger puncher than Mike Tyson?
Answer from Evander: Well. I didnt get hit by Mike. I didn't get hit with none of them big bombs I got out the way of them things. Thats the whole art of the game, not to get hit by big bombs."

Saying Foreman's power is overrated is madness!

George could still kill a regular joe with a punch, and still KO some active fighters now, IMO.

One of the hardest punchers to walk the face of the earth.

Old Man Foreman hit Michael Moorer with a shot that traveled about 18 inches which required 36 stitches inside his mouth from the damage.

Corrie Sanders once hit a golf ball 287 yards.

Agree. Reagardless of "how" he managed to get a fighter out of there, he was effective about 85-90% of the time. Even some of the guys who took him the distance or beat him complained about his power. Jimmy Young once said that he was out on his feet and if George had hit him one more time at that moment it would have been over.

I didn't completely buy into Foreman's "Mr. Nice Guy" act in his comeback but I do believe he pulled his punches in some of those fights.
I think ten years out of the ring made him realize killing a man in the ring wouldn't have been so cool.
He's often admitted that in his early career he was literally trying to kill his opponents, he thought that would prove a point and increase his reputation.
Sounds a bit f**Ked up, but the films of the Norton and Roman fights show a very menacing mean fighter.
I don't think he wanted to kill Frazier though, or maybe he tried but Frazier kept getting up.

He said many years ago in an interview that he tried to model himself after Sonny Liston - that he liked the way he acted. He then said that he found out being nasty to people isn't the way to get respect or make friends. I don't know what George Foreman is like in private life but something tells me he's probably a decent human being. He did a lot of work for his community as a preacher. Started a kids community center.. Was known for being a pretty good father of many children. And to my knowledge he's never been arrested, accused of a crime or rumored to have beaten his wife, etc...

Yeah, I don't think he's a bad guy at all. But I've heard he's not quite as cuddly and amiable when the cameras are off him, and that's fair enough anyway. Everyone has the right to be a bit grumpy.
1980s and onwards he's never been accused of anything. He was genuinely a reformed person, otherwise he would have been locked up or sued no doubt.
I'm not so sure about his character during the 1970s. I think he's admitted to being a woman beater back in those days, and was a street slugger and mugger in his youth.
No one's got a perfect record anyhow. :good

I met George in Atlantic city before the Lewis-Briggs fight and he was very open and easy to speak with. He talked to everyone with a smile. I have no doubt he is genuinely a nice guy. I met Marvin Hagler in a bar in New Hampsier in the early 90's and he was the opposite. No smile, didnt want to be bothered by people. He did give me his IBHOF hat and signed it for me so I dont hold anything against him. Just a different personality than big George.
