Thread title just makes me picture Gervonta Davis' face superimposed on the poster for that awful aughts rom-com, as Matthew McConaughey's love interest, and I can't stop giggling.

(the alternative would be to PhotoShop his face over McConaughey's and have him playing opposite the other lead, Sarah Jessica Parker, but that is just too much damn ugly for one image)

    Davis's career is a failure

Imagine being that good and failing to make it

Guess there aren't that many opponents for him and nobody really cares for little men in America. They all want to replicate Floyd's success but won't.

Gervonta is the king of tune up fights.
Gervonta success mostly comes from the American casual fan base desperation looking for the new Floyd. It failed with Broner. Now that they have Gervonta, they're secured with that. He doesn't have to fight a championship. Tank can genuinely sell tickets and keep casuals locked in as long he holds that spot as Floyd's replacement. Gervonta fans can hype up the Gamboa, Garcia, Cruz wins personally for me it's not legacy fights. What makes Floyd different from Tank was Floyd was beating legit competition in his "pretty boy" phase. So much to the point Floyd created a legacy for himself before he became Money Mayweather. Floyd earned being the heel, the villain, the guy people hate because he was so good. Those weight clauses Floyd earned that even with that Floyd moved up to his walking weight and was still dominant. I don't see Davis going to 140 and handling Haney and Matias like he did with Garcia and Cruz. If he does all the credit to him and the hype was real. His resume isn't better than Loma, Lopez or Haney.

So why is Gervonta Davis on the ESPN and Ring top ten P4P lists?

He turns 30 this year and yet has never fought a top opponent.

It's frustrating to watch because I believe he would KO Devin Haney and Shakur. I would also slightly favor him to beat Teo Lopez as well but that would be a good fight.

He is pretty much the PBC Jamie Munguia….basically the forever prospects. Al bit I do think Davis is a talented fighter. He is simply too protected to live up to his claims.

He technically wasn’t even a legit champ at 135 or 140. Well until now he got emailed the 135 belt I think. But yes we still waiting for him to take up a true test.

He just didn’t fight the true champs when he should have. Berchelt, Lomachenko, Teofimo, etc…fights he should have had already. Instead he’s been fighting for fake belts with Gamboa and Barrios

    KD? Yes.
But because of bad footwork from Tank rather than effective punching from Emo Santa Cruz.

I dont doubt his talent or whether he's legit, but I do wish he'd get on with it and beat some of these guys. But it isn't just him at those weights, it's the whole lot of them. There's enough guys dancing around each other to set up a freaking tournament.

I've no idea how he's on the p4p list when he's never even fought the legitimate number 1 in any division.

Tbf to him some of his wins have aged well and he's realistically two victories from living up to his hype somewhat.

If he beats Martin and unifies against the winner of Loma v Kambosos that would be quite impressive.
