Maybe if he'd gone life and death with Mercado you'd give da man sum respekt bro.

 

He is an ATG. Not as great as I perhaps first thought (I had him as an unstoppable monster when he was in his prime) but definitely a great fighter.

Yesterday did nothing to change my mind on that fact.

If anything it's opened my eyes to perhaps Canelo always being an ATG level fighter.

The Middleweight division is far too deep, historically, to have Golovkin in the top-10 of All-Time Middleweights, let alone Top-5.

Golovkin's level of competition, overall, has been low and his opponents, in the main, have been tomato cans.
He is supposed to be a monster puncher but has, in his last three contests, been taken the distance in closely-run bouts by opponents, which could be reasonably described as 'world class'.

The core argument for his alleged 'robberies', against Alvarez (a ridiculous accusation in close fights such as theirs have been), has been Golovkin outlanding Canelo in 'jabs'. The same argument was used to justify his close-run win over Jacobs.

To the best of my knowledge, Golovkin has never been recognised as either the lineal or undisputed champion, despite the argument for longevity. And, it seems his longevity as a titlist and unified titlist has him talked about in terms of greatness, despite it being demonstrable that, had he faced more world-level opponents in his career, the same longevity would be very much in doubt.

Golovkin - All Time Great? The question is funny.

I know people are upset but can you just put your feelings aside and be reasonable, treat 3G like you do everyone, dont make special circumstances for him just because he got beat.

In a way I can see why he thinks that, 3G only has 8 now, or 9. But he lacks faith of a true 3G fan - I know for sure that 3G will win back a title and keep going.

 

I favour Hagler in that one myself but Golovkin would be easily one of his toughest opponents if not the toughest. He's not gonna run away like Leonard.
