I say yes too. That doesn't mean he's not the man at 160 and a very good boxer, but he's being hyped as the second coming on this site. I fear in a few years the *******s will be replaced by golovtards.
He might well turn out as good as expected by some, but he hasn't proven it yet. People predicting him to beat Floyd or Ward even though his best win is fucking Macklin, are insanely annoying lately on ESB. Punching power gets overrated way too much on here.
He's been overrated by some, saying he beats Hagler and ****.. but some people calling him a hypejob et cetera are also underrating him.
I think this guy is the real deal, and I don't think their is anything wrong with making predictions that he beats some of these top guys. And while it may be uncommon I think he could beat Hagler, does that mean he would no, but I genuinely think this guy might go on to prove that he is one of the best MWs ever. Notice I said go on, cause he is far from proving it, but there are a lot of people I would pick him to win against. Now that being said, he is being painted by some as this ATG terminator and i being slightly overrated and probably to some extent by myself as well.
No. Some people act like he's superman, some people act like he's some **** hypejob. Most people realise he's very good. Probably the best at 160, would have a good chance against most guys at 168 and most people would favour Ward over him.
My answer is yes based on his hype in some circles, but in fairness it's very hard to get a good read on him with his low level of competition. I would like to see him vs a solid boxer type like Sturm, among others, to get a better idea of where he's at.
Based on what he has actually proven to date, yes. He might turn out to be what everybody says he is but I don't see particularly good competition so far. Although he has demolished them like you would expect a top fighter to in fairness.
I dont see many predicting a win over Ward, just a possibly really good fight. The win against FMJ predictions are due solely to the size/power mismatch. An observation shared by Floyd Sr, so its not like even FMJ camp is thinking GGG a good idea for them. Its not about hype, its about the same as Ward fighting Wlad. Most of the GGG threads are actually created by haters, so you get some off the cuff back and forth. Ironically, if the haters stopped hating I dont think there would be that many GGG threads or hype except in the 2 week period around his actual fights. Most of the actual Golovkin fans I see here think he is best MW, and want to see him use new HBO leverage to get fights with top MWs and prove hes the best MW. Then move up to 168 and see what happens with the top SMW. Which I think is actually pretty reasonable level of fandom, and not really excessive hype. Sure, there is some hype.. but without hype fights dont get made or sold.
The hype's ahead of the resume, and I'm one of his biggest fans here. Once he gets the big fights, I have no doubt he'll live up to my expectations and prove to be a top level P4P talent. But I can understand why some people are annoyed now. Look at it this way, though- if he doesn't get the hype now, there'd be no incentive for guys like Martinez to fight him in the first place. He needs that buzz, and to his credit, he's built it himself in the ring.
