Is GGG KO won over Ishida very underrated?

I'm a huge Ishida fan, but...

Ishida was not a top 25 MW.

He had only fought a MW at MW once before, and you'd be lucky to find 2 or 3 rounds that Ishida won over Pirog. His TKO1 over Kirkland was at a 157 pound catchweight, so it was a MW encounter, but Kirkland at that point was years removed from any sort of relevance or ranking and wouldn't find any again until he beat Angulo later on which was not at MW. In his last two serious fights going into the Golovkin fight, Ishida might have won 2 rounds of the 24.

He was underrated during his prime and a very tough out for anyone, but nowadays as much as I hate saying it, he has become somewhat overrated (all due love and respect to Ishida).

 

The knock out was yes.

Golovkin detractors deny it because Ishida wasn't in the top 10, but it was a sensational KO of an iron chinned fighter.

i was somewhat more impressed with his utter beatdown of khomitsky back in 2007 than the ishida fight, before he was even with abel sanchez. here is a list of the boxers triple G is the first and in some cases still only person to stop.

Golovkin wasn't "supposed to" knock out Simon either. The Ishida KO might be a bit underrated on this board, not sure.

 

Ouma does not qualify for that list, but he had not been stopped in 10 years before GGG stopped him. He had an early stoppage in his second year as a pro.

 

Yes. I thought that Ishida could possibly take him the whole 12 round or get broken down for a KO.
I did not believe that GGG had enough power to one shot KO him like that.
Solidified Golovkins power in my mind.

 

the feat of golovkin getting a win over ishida is not underrated, considering ishida had 8 losses going into the fight. i don't think people believe the knockout was underrated either, that was a savage ko of a guy generally considered to have a sturdy chin.

Was a good knockout but Ishida should have never got caught with that punch he got caught going straight back with no block

 

I'm a big GGG fan but no that KO was not underrated. He did what he was supposed to. I like Ishida but I really don't think he has an iron chin.

 

As shoe pointed out, stopping Khomitsky is way more impressive.

Nobuhiro was somewhat troubled by Rigo Alvarez's power, FFS (of course this was after gassing having outboxed Rigo in the first half and banking enough rounds to deserve the decision but get robbed - but still, he was troubled and sent running, by Canelo's shitty brother...)
