i don't get fighters like Hearns and GGG, guys who weren't known to be punchers in the amateurs and then all of a sudden pack dynamite in their fists.

 

Well that right hand that Golovkin landed to finish his last bout was pretty much the only punch he loaded up on. He hurts opponents without putting real venom into the punches, he relies on accuracy and getting the punches home with as much inefficiency as possible. His jab was knocking Ishida off balance at an alarming rate.

GGG took out quite a few guys in the amatures and they wore headgear.

 

Naseem Hamed wasn't a huge puncher in the amateurs either.

Throw Miranda in the mix for middleweight punchers over the last 10 years.

Based on what? Golovkin just KO'd a washed up retired 154 pounder, who has been on the canvas previously in his career, and who hadn't won a fight against a top tier opponent ever.

GGGs power is no joke.. He is likely a top 5 P4P in terms of pure punching power. I don't know how it meassures up against past MWs.. Let's see how GGG does against top 5 opponents.
