No, he's not. I'd say George Chuvalo is the toughest boxer in history in and out of the ring. People saying that we need better comp to rate him properly are not totally on point because you can rate someone practically against any decent competition if you know what you're looking for. Anyone that posts here and isn't a troll or an idiot obviously likes boxing a lot. So it's good to educate yourself about the different facets of the game. 3G is a mint fighter. He has great technique, he has a great chin and he has great ring generalship and sets everything up like a veteran. He's yet to get the top MWs, but given that they're all running from him blatantly, it's difficult for us to put any blame anywhere else than everyone else but him. But we have seen him in with different styles and a few top 10 or close to it guys. If we use the Macklin fight for example, who is a legit top 10 MW, we can see a lot of things that indicate that 3G is an elite fighter. The main being how easily he cut off the ring, how Macklin didn't have a single answer for anything he did and how he set up that beautiful KO - He feinted with a fake shot to the gloves, a light uppercut to the gloves lower which opened the vulnerable part of the body and then drilled a picture perfect KO that cracked Macklin's ribs with perfect technique. He's an intelligent fighter, he's not just a hyped up banger. Ironically, Macklin is a good W for Sergio and troubled him to a pretty competitive. He was robbed against Sturm, KO'd Alcine. Not saying he's a top shelf operator, but he's certainly a contender level guy within the content of MW and didn't have a prayer. The type that troubles and maybe defeats others like Barker, Geale, Quillin and the other guys that people want 3G to face. Stevens tasted the power and went into survival mode. 3G's stopped guys never KO'd before and aside from his fights with Rosado and Ouma, we haven't seen much come back in the way of real resistance, and those were just slight resistance and he wasn't in top form for Rosado, having gotten over the Flu. Likewise I want to share some things as well - I'm a major boxing fan and I train at gyms and such and have hung around Wildcard and have been over there at Big Bear and met Abel Sanchez and so on. A good friend of mine is even better acquainted with Sanchez and has seen 3G train and spar and has met 3G multiple times in person and he told me a story of 3G and Sergey Kovalev in a gym war and witnessed Kovalev getting KO'd cold. So I personally believe that 3G is the real deal. I understand people not wanting to blow someone up before they get a signature W, in the way that people were doing for say - Adrien Broner, but in this case the guy has shown far too few flaws for anything to be worried about. A guy like Broner was getting tagged by DeMarco, Rees and Malignaggi far too much and anyone that trains or watches boxing for the details could see him getting busted up by a good Welterweight easily. It was all there. I think what's all here with 3G is the makings of a really great fighter. Too bad though that MW is not strong and is full of weak champions that won't take risks.
And people, don't even think about Mayweather - 3G at MW. You're talking about a WW that struggled with Miguel Cotto. Mayweather would be out of there in 5 against Golovkin. If you think otherwise, please start studying boxing's finer details and quit watching hype.
Are you stupid or just prejudiced against GGG? You intentionally left the "at this time" of the quote. The accurate quote is: "We are not interested in the Ward fight at this time." Both sides, Ward and GGG are on record saying they want to wait on the fight--both for financial reasons. So quit the ignorant propaganda. You know it is inaccurate, or maybe you're just stupid, but I think it has to be intentional. To the OP, no, GGG is not the toughest man I've seen.
GGG is something, a special fighter as Brother Naziim would say, but people are ready to crown him God. I say, I want some more meaningful wins. That is all.
How do incidents such as GGG KOing Kovalev out cold in a gym war not get around more? I have found that the "what happens in the gym, stays in the gym" mantra dows not always hold true, in fact it rarely does. It is awesome that you actually train boxifng. Always easier to take a poster serious when they TRAIN, something, anything. Ever sparred with any top amateurs or pro's of note?
Cotto gave him a competitive fight. I thought it was a good fight that the fans wanted to see, and we got it @54. By the way, if GGG is the fighter he's touted to be, he is supposed to KO Mayweather in 5. Mayweather getting knocked out by arguably the best middleweight in the world wouldn't really surprise me, but neither would a Mayweather UD.
GGG is the most beast of a fighter i have ever seen. any from 154 (is he could really make it. if he could really make 54 i think he would had made the move down. more money at 54 than 60,, but he beats anyone from 54 to 68
Notable, did some sparring with Edouard. Light sparring with Berto, Lacy. Watched Wright spar in the gym, but did not spar with him, same with Ouma, all in Florida. Here in CA I've been in the gym with Nonito Donaire studying what he does and not boxing, but I've also sparred the Diaz brothers from MMA(do BJJ also and have rolled with them), which both of them spar with Andre Ward and I want to get to his gym soon just to see him work but haven't had the time. A lot of no name amateurs. Ironically I've never fought amateur, though have competed in Jiu Jitsu tournaments. Just into the workout and benefits of it all. Taking an ass whipping is good from time to time. You get well better quick.
No, Cotto in that form was a good W for Mayweather and that was a good fight. Back when it was announced I said it was a good fight and predicted a competitive bout. I really enjoyed it and we saw a lot of great stuff in it due to the style clash. Mayweather UD over 3G at 160 is an impossibility. About like 37 year old Mayweather UD over a peaking Hagler is an impossibility. Not suggesting 3G is Hagler or anything like that, but the same kind of danger level in a hard punching, hard nosed technical fighter that is much bigger. Mayweather is good, but he's not *that* good to go up to MW and beat an elite there at his size and there's certain guys that would have beaten him at his own weight and thus the fights never happened.
Well, being objective, there are question marks on Mayweather's resume because of the fights that didn't happen. At the same time, it doesn't mean that the fights that didn't happen are fights that he "certainly" would have lost. I don't see a Mayweather win vs GGG as an impossibility. But I don't care for absolutes, especially in boxing where there are so many variables.
No absolutes. But if they announced Broner vs Kirkland after what we watched in December, you'd be a fool to bet on Broner. Or Sergio Martinez healthy again vs. Adonis Stevenson at LHW, you'd be crazy to place any money on Martinez. Same here - To properly outbox a larger elite fighter you still need something on the punches to get their attention and keep them checked when coming forward. GGG tight defense, accurate punching, excellent ring cutting ability - I really can't picture any scenario where Mayweather would outbox him, aside from bringing GGG to 152 or something where he'd be a walking Zombie and have nothing on his shots and slugging around the ring. And I also would never suggest that he should take that fight or be criticized for not taking it. Much larger elite fighter, no. What I criticize is missing the elite's around his size and signing to fight Amir Khan's and Robert Guerrero's.
That's fair. If they announced Mayweather vs GGG, I would certainly favor GGG, but if Mayweather found a way to win, it wouldn't surprise me. If only he would dare do something truly great. Even if it were a pot shot fest, it would be impressive, because at any moment GGG could end it. Broner is not elite talent, I said that from day one. Sergio has been on the decline for several fights now. Mayweather is still operating at a very high level. And yeah, the Guerrero and Khan fights(if it happens) are bull****.
Stevenson called out Ward, Ward refused to respond, even if Stevenson went down to 168. Ward always has to have his personal referee, his home town, his boxing commission, his commentators, etc. Golovkin is good fighter, has great defense/offense, plus a rock chin and tons of stamina.
