How would a prime GGG fare against ATG at MW? People seem to judge GGG only by his fights when he was borderline shot. IMO it started with the Brook fight where he looked slower than ever and was more evident in his following bouts.

Sadly we will never know exactly how good prime GGG was. We can only describe what our eyes see. The truth is GGG’s footwork and speed went from 8/10 to 5/10 very quickly. As many of the EE/Asian boxers, he spent prime years of his career outside the US.

How many boxers in history beat fighters of Canelo/Jacobs caliber while being 35/36.

How good/underrated/overrated is GGG for you?

Depends who you're talking. We got a little carried away with him but similarly some folk don't give him anywhere near the credit he deserves.

An excellent MW who found meaningful fights too late in his career. He looked less destructive as his competition stepped up, but that coincided with him reaching the years that pressure fighters tend to lose a step. People would do well to consider both of these factors instead of just one.

Before jacobs and canelo who both gave him problems his best win was lemmy. That's borderline Wilder level yet he's talked about as if he's one of the greatest ever. If that's not overrated I don't know what is

I think he's an extremely talented fighter with elite skill who's potential we'll never know.

His downfall was that he nor his team had belief in him to back up the hype HBO gave him.

They were mostly concerned with keeping the undefeated record than building a legacy.

He talked the talk but when opportunity came knocking he just wouldn't open the door and go for the walk.

He filled his record with c level fighter and foreign low level b fighters. He fought many low level JrMWs but avoided the best JrMWs.

He was content with fighters moving up and being their biggest challenge, but he himself was unwilling to move up to face his biggest challenge.

He complained that he couldn't unify all the belts and that no one wanted to fight him while simultaneously taking step aside money and avoided certain fighters because he was always waiting for the money fight.

In the end, history will judge him accordingly imo. His contract with DAZN will ensure he gets a spot into the BHOF, but will never be considered an ATG.

Carl Froch said it best: “Just swerve Golovkin like the plague. He punches like a mule. I don’t need to be in with him. Dangerous fight”. GGG was avoided or blatantly ducked in his prime. Canelo waited to face an older GGG and lost the first match then waited months and got an additional six month staycation after he was popped for Clenbuterol and GGG still held his own.

We can’t know how good he really was in his prime because of how many people avoided him.

He was neither underrated or overrated. Fairly rated as an all time great in my humble opinion. The Canelo fights still annoy me.

Depends on the context. In a historical context, when talking about ATG MWs and ranking them? Yeah, he gets overrated, big time. His 20 title defences is a farce, and his résumé is pretty thin. He wasn't even considered for my top 20 at the middleweights, and so he probably wouldn't crack top 30.

H2H is entirely dependent on who you're talking to. Some say he was never anything special, others say he was a modern-day Marvin Hagler. Both extremities are wrong IMO, and like usual, the truth is somewhere in the middle.

So because Carl froch, a guy not even in GGGs division, didn't fight him you conclude his bad resume is not his fault at all? Seems like a pretty big leap to make

GGG was blatantly ducked by Clenelo, Cotto, Sturm, and Sergio. Clenelo went on the juice before he gathered the nerves to fight GGG. And got 2 gifts.

I say he's a tad underrated by some and a tad overrated by others. Unfortunately for him he always passed the eye test but never had the chance to create a better resume with higher caliber opponents.

Ultimately in a historical sense you can critique any fighter's resume to death and not really get anywhere. I do think he could've done with adding another marquee name on his record to establish himself. In hindsight i think he should've moved up in weight.

He beat Canelo twice but the Vegas corruption robbed him. If all was fair he would still be the Undefeated World Middleweight champion. Even a juiced to the gills Canelo couldnt beat him

You are deliberately twisting what I wrote and I would ask you to reread it. I never mentioned Froch fighting GGG. I simply stated that Froch said something best. Period. Don’t use strawman arguments. GGG resume is what it is because many fighters “swerved him like the plague” Every poster here acknowledges that except you. Too many angry people using this forum to vent anger rather than expand their knowledge. Sad.

Which resume is really better GGG who has NEVER been suspected of using Ped's or
Canelo's who was caught popping dirty & was " punished " NSAC style. Both Canelo & Mayweather really have been proven dirty with the Clenbuterol & IV gate scandals & even the NSAC themselves failed to prove them innocent. They just put the icing on their misdeeds
I'll take the clean fighter every time
