Wait, um, whom did they duck at 160? And no, I am not talking about 168 or other weight classes. Golovkin beat Macklin, Murray, Lemieux and Geale; who were top middleweights at the time. There was nothing else besides Martinez, Cotto and Alvarez. But Golovkin made his HBO debut same time Martinez faced Chavez Jr. Martinez then was supposed to rematch Chavez and that didn´t go according to plan. He could have fought Golovkin instead of Cotto, but I won´t blame Martinez for taking what was seen as a easy money grab(Martinez had dealt with serious injuries and a long layoff). Cotto wanted no part of Golovkin. And then Canelo danced to a different tune for a while. So who else was there? What else was there to do at 160? What were the opportunities that he missed(by his own design)?
He's rated about right. Although he should have two wins over Canelo on his record. It's a shame the judges robbed him in those fights.
This pretty much sums it up. He tried at various points to get Froch, Sturm, Ward, Mayweather and Chavez into the ring with no results. That's basically a who's who of the weightclasses near him. He never fought the Charlos or Lara, but frankly that doesn't bother me too much. I personally think Golovkin is one of the middleweight greats. If you look at how he fights, controls space, fights from behind a jab keeps balance and mixes his punches up, he's basically a textbook fighter that does everything right. The fact that he's physically as strong as an ox is just gravy.
I had the first one a draw. So the official verdic is OK in my eyes. But if anyone did win it it was Golovkin. I just see no way how Canelo could have been given 7 rounds that night. But why I have to agree with it being a robbery is because of that ***** whose binoculars don´t seem to work(funny thing is that Byrd was the only judge who had Khan rightfully ahead). Golovkin got robbed of a fair decision that night. Second one could have gone either way in my eyes. I am fine with people scoring it for Golovkin as there were many close rounds. But the thing with Canelo is that it´s popular to criticize him and his fight results. He barely edged Jacobs and people cried about it. He was a point ahead vs Kovalev and some made it seem outrageous.
Oh, I forgot about Chavez! That fight was basically a done deal but Top Rank wanted Chavez to sign an extension or take a smaller purse(might be mistaken about the purse), thus the fight fell through. So that one is on Bob. Also Golovkin gets **** for facing Brook, but it happened because Eubank Jr. lost his pen. Eubank was seen as an up and coming contender. In the end Golovkin did the best he could, unifying 3 of the belts.
Overrated, His hardcore fans used to believe he could knock out heavy weights, and before the Jacobs fight they were saying on how he was going to destroy Jacobs in less than 5 rounds, suddenly he got "old" overnight lol same with Canelo.
Cotto was a little bit faster on his feet than Canelo, I think he would've given ggg a tough close fight.
I've seen people on here say: Golovkin stopped HWs in sparring........ He was a harder puncher than Mccllelan, Julian Jackson, Kovalev and Beterbiev (2 LHW montsers)..... His resume was better than Bernard Hopkins..............and he'd stop Bernard Hopkins............. He could "outbox" Tommy Hearns........ He'd stop Monzon and Hagler......... Golovkin has transcended the need for belts............ He'd knock out Adonis Stevenson at LHW............ Golovkin hits harder than John Ruiz (a HW) Golovkin is the most avoided fighter in history.................... Nah...........he's not overrated at all............
I think Cotto would crumble after 4-5 rounds, he could give GGG problems in the first few no quesrions
