He blew out 18 of his 20 title defenses, not just Macklin. He would chew up and spit out the likes of Sturm, Joppy, Holmes, and I would either KO or out point Abraham. Taking what Abel said out of context again I see.
Not difficult he could face them now or anytime in the last couple of years. His reluctance to date infers certain things.
Macklin was his first really impressive victory. Lots of people blow lots of people out in paper defences.
That's the real reality of it. Without the corruption Derevyanchenko would have been GGG'S 22nd title defense, but 20 title defenses (18) by KO is still excellent. With the corruption GGG is still 9-1-1 (8) KO'S vs Ring magazine top Ten fighters. I would still like to see him once again unify the middleweight title one more time on the way out at this advanced age.
Proksa was impressive, Stevens was fun, Macklin was easy work, Geale was the former unified middleweight champ that defeated Sturm in the Unification. Geale won the WBA super from Sturm then gave up his belt so he didnt have to fight regular champ GGG. When they fought later for GGG'S title he got destroyed. Rubio went 12 rounds with Chavez jr and 9 rounds with Pavlik, Also 12 rounds with Dog Dirrell at 168lbs, got destroyed in 2 rounds by GGG. Martin Murray went life and death with Sturm and Martinez, got robbed in a 168lbs title shot vs Abraham, and went 12 rounds with Groves two noted 168lbs punchers . GGG chewed him up and spit him out. Nobody ever did Martin Murray like that before or after. When Martinez beat Macklin and Murray he got much praise and credit. When GGG demolished these guys while they are Ring magazine top 10 middleweights haters like to call them bums.
That doesn't relate to my post at all. The way he blew out Macklin put him on the map. From 2013 onwards he's been a rip 2 middleweight.
I think he struggled because they were the best fighters he ever faced, and I don't see anything wrong with that. He essentially defeated the current #1 pfp fighter today on points at least once, and defeated Jacobs by points also. Either by points or KO is fine, but as you can see, most of the time its by KO.
So you just randomly threw out names and went with the "well, he could have" line. Golovkin has always chased the top spot at middleweight. Why are people giving him a hard time for that?
I'd say as of right now he is slightly underrated but I think before going into the first canelo fights I think he was slightly overrated
Before the first Canelo fight he was extremely overrated. Lots of people were calling him the all time greatest middleweight. Now we see that is a joke.
