When you think of what a... boxing hall of fame should be. A place to remember great warriors. Then I think Glen has (just-about) earned his place.
It certainly does in this instance. Glen Johsnon is really only a world title holder, not a dominant champion, not a guy who had success in multiple divisions, not a multiple time world champion (IBO doesn't really count). A guy who was world class that is it. If they let every fighter in based on this precedant, the HOF would be more flooded than it already is. You are being far too lenient, and letting your own bias come into play IMO.
It is a place to remember great champions, not great warriors. Guys like Micky Ward, Tex Cobb etc etc will never be HOF material, regardless of how much heart and tenacity they showed in the ring. Same goes for Johnson.
He didn't beat Dawson. The fight was very very close, watch the fight again with the sound off. I think the fight deserved a draw, but it could of went either way, it just happened to be in Dawson's favor. I'd say that fight was just as close as the Pacquiao vs Marquez II match. And a rematch can't happen right away because Adrian Diaconu is the WBC interim champion. If their wasn't an interim champion, then yes a Dawson vs Johnson 2 should happen immediately.
Hopefully not. Don't get me wrong, I really like Johnson as a fighter and have great respect for him for all that he has achieved. Whenever he is fighting I will almost always back him. But if you let the Glen Johnson's of the world into the HOF I consider that to be dropping the bar a bit too low. Sentiment should not come into it; it has to go on a fighters record and competition faced and beat. Despite some good results (Jones and Tarver) and some debatable losses, Johnson does not make it in my opinion. The HOF should be for great fighters, not good ones. Although I'm sure that someone can quote me a bunch of guys already in there that don't come up to the "great" title, I feel this criteria should still be upheld when we (the members of the ESB forum) discuss possible nominations.
I think Johnson is somewhat better than only 'good'. I would say he is / was a very good fighter. But no, maybe he never did quite reach 'greatness'.
So let me get this right, you all argue that UK fighters like Chris Eubank, Nigel Benn and some of you, even Joe Calzaghe shouldn't be HOF but Glen Johnson should???
Jack Prescott claims that Glen Johnson beats a PRIME Roy Jones, so based off that fantasy accomplishment let's put the guy in there :rofl :rofl :rofl
