He won't be an ATG if he loses , so he's not an all time great yet.

He'd be considered a very good fighter. ATG? No lol. He's beat Lemieux and Jacobs. Lemieux he dominated but Jacobs was the opposite. To be considered an atg you have to beat top opponents. He has the ability, but the resume just isn't there. If he beats Eubank Jr and Saunders without question then I would consider him an atg. However I wouldn't say he is a top 10 middleweight of all time.

GGG is going down as an atg regardless, where you have him ranked is your personal business, but understand he is an atg as we speak, cleaned out a whole division.

Now if Canelo can beat GGG, he will be rated as an atg. But the issue is, can he win? if he does, atg status guaranteed. this fight legitimize Canelo.

Canelo does not legitimize GGG, his record and pedigree speaks for itself

Name me 11 fighters better then GGG, and explain why they are better.

I can only think of two that can be mentioned in the same sentence. One lost to a former welterweight.
The other is close to losing his defense record of the middleweight title to GGG,
and the third Monzon, imo IS not better then HAGLER or Bernard.

GGG arguably is better then Hagler, and is in the league of Hopkins at the moment.

This is all opinion, please tell me the 11 better fighters, I am interested to hear it...........

He won a controversial decision against the best guy he ever fought and chose not to fight Billy Joe Saunders.

His record is not what ATGs are made of.

My initial reaction was No. HOF for sure. But after think about it more, I would say Yes. I don't know what the criteria is to be an ATG, so I'm just gonna say fighters that belong in the top 100. Not to say I've enough knowledge and time to compile such a list.
After beating Canelo, GGG would have legitimate claim of the lineal title along with the unified titles that he possess. You can call him undisputed even without the WBO, considering how hard it is to collect all those belts with all the politics involved.
I think that accomplishment would be enough to make him a definite top 10 middleweight of all time thus ATG status albeit not the Mount Rushmore type.

Cleaned out a weak divison. By your logic if Thurman beats Brook and he's an ATG too? Hahaha.. Sorry, but ATG is reserved for special fighters who do special things.

Jacob is the second best fighter in the division,

Jacobs is elite. he aint a bum,

Jacobs only loss was to another elite. who was taken away from the boxing world too soon.

When watching two elites. when do they not go life and death. when do atg blow away other elites easily?

Name two primes fighter who fight, and tell me if it dont go life or death or decision.......

We can hate, but History already recognizes the man

If Canelo can legitimately beat GGG then his stock goes up. However there is one thing ggg has to realise - he's going to need a KO to win. This is why the advantage of with Camel. This might change GGGs fight plan particularly in the later rounds. If you are beating a guy but believe a KO is required then more risks need to be taken. Therein lies the danger. Canelo can sit back and counterpunch knowing ggg has to make the fight.

    Weak....the historical middleweight division weak.....OK.

    Thats your opinion,

Before GGG started kicking ass and taking names, no one said this.

Its like Crawford in the Light welter weight division, Clean it out and then its weak,

Klitscho cleans out the heavyweight division for 10 years, it weak.....

Basically any dominant champion in a division makes it weak......

Whatever dude, and by the way, whoever wins the brook v Spence fight, means supremacy at the welter weight division , aka Thurman has to see the winner if he wants to be viewed as the best...

Jacobs isn't elite. His best win was Jarord Fletcher. He beat nobody. Priog looked elite and he cleaned his clock.

I had Jacobs narrowly defeating GGG as did a lot of people.

There's no case for GGG being any ATG when his biggest fight against his best opponent has yet to be fought and even though i favour him to win , its no certainty that he will.
reA close call to Jacobs who he was meant to blast out in lop sided fashion and a loss to Canelo removes him from ATG territory and puts him in Martinez and Pavlik territory. Good fighters outside the ATG bracket.

If Thurman cleans out WW, stays undefeated for another 4 years or so, and becomes a consensus top 5 p4p fighter, he'll probably be at the lower end of ATGs too for most people.

With your definition of ATG doing special things beyond the above, only Floyd and Pac and a select few others like RJJ and Hopkins would be solidly there of recent fighters. It's a matter of opinion at the end of the day I suppose.

Hopkins - Higher ring IQ and resume
Robinson - Higher ring IQ, better resume, better versatility, a true master of boxing, better puncher
Greb - Better resume, higher IQ , better fighter in general, fought 37 times in one year (winning 37)
Walker - Better resume, better puncher
Monzon - Better all around fighter, better puncher, better chin
Hagler - Better puncher, higher IQ, better chin, better resume
Ketchel - Better puncher, better resume
Papke - Same as Ketchel, better chin
Fitzsimmons - Better puncher, better ring iq
Steele - Proven, better ring iq
Zale - better chin, more proven

(Btw I said he wouldn't be in the top TEN)

My reservations aren't really with Golovkin's ability. Just with his resume.
