No won't see him as a ATG ( not yet anyway)...Resume is thin on quality wins. If he stays and clears out middleweight totally...or goes up in weight for some quality wins, I think he can get there IMO. With that said, I think he would give anyone you would care to mention @ 160 a tough tough fight...Quality fighter...just not enough quality wins. Canelo is a good place to start....Charlo is another. Jacobs rematch is another...
Not in order 1. Sugar Ray Robinson 2. Sugar Ray Leonard 3. Marvin Hagler 4. Bernard Hopkins 5. Roy Jones Jr 6. Bernard Hopkins 7. Carlos Monzon 8. Jake Lamotta 9. James Toney 10. Gerald McClellan 11. Michael Nun GGG is will go down as a HOF, an ATG very, very debatable. His best win so far was a WW and a close decision in Jacobs. If he wins against Canelo, people will see it as a should win since he was the natural bigger man. On the other hand should he lose, that's a very good question.
Depends on what qualifies an ATG in your opinion. Nobody will be talking about the opponents which were his best victories as of now in 5 years, let alone 10 or 25. The on-paper ranking of those fighters aren't impressive for a years-long dominant fighter, either. If there have only been 50-100 ATG's or so ever, then very much no. If there have been a few hundred ATG's, which is still an elite class don't get me wrong, then maybe. A lot is still in the air on Golovkin's career. He has only faced two opponents you could argue were top 5 ranked fighters in Lemieux and Jacobs. A good percentage had him losing to Jacobs. Canelo will be his third. And should Canelo lose and not accomplish very much afterward, you have this whole generation of folks who will yell about Canelo never being a good MW. Plus Golovkin fans themselves, also a good percentage of boxing fans, have let it be known for years now that they don't seem to think very highly of Canelo's in ring skills and victories... It's completely impossible to say right now and not worth discussing.
If you need explanation on why they are better, then I would advice you to go to wikipedia and youtube.
Joe Louis vs Max Baer Ali vs Liston I and II Liston vs Patterson I and II Foreman vs Frazier I and II Fitz vs Jeffries II Johnson vs Burns Louis vs Carnera Baer vs Carnera Non Atg Lewis (atg) vs Morrison Mercer vs Morrison Plenty more for each category.
No controversy at all & BJS, he had to drop him as Oscar said no fight with fatboy if he took that fight! Just be honest...
yes better names same way pac is better then Lemieux and Jacobs but does that mean he will stands a chance with them in a ring?
How does he "become great" at the END of his career, to you ??? He's been great for over a decade. To you, him being on the decline he somehow can BECOME great from a single fight? If he's not great now or prior goes he going to become great at 36 ? You mean an atg or a great active fighter ?
