Go look up who Harry Greb is. After that, check up on Ray RObinson. Than don't miss guys like Mickey Walker, Ketchel, Cerdan, MOnzon and Hagler. I'm missing several more great MW's, but those are the guys that stick out to me off the top of my head. It's very hard for me to believe anyone will usurp what Harry Greb did at MW. He has probably the strongest case outside of Armstrong and Sugar Ray as the greatest P4P fighter ever. There's also a guy who fought in the late 1800's who went from being the true champion at MW and won the true HW championship of the world- Mr. Bob FItzsimmons. That's probably one of the greatest feats in boxing history.
Come on man, are you serious now? He's not even the legitimate MW champion. SO defending his alphabet titles means nothing. Than explore who he knocked out. It's not like he was taking out great competition. It's blasphemous that you're even mentioning any of this as a way to strengthen your argument. Shame on you. The MW division is one of the greatest divisions of the sport and has housed some of the greatest fighters P4P. He's nowhere near any of those guys I mentioned. Not even close. I'm talking about the elite ATG's, and you're talking about a HOF bound fighter. They're oceans apart in accomplishments. If you took some time to read up on what Harry Greb did at MW and beyond that weight class, you wouldn't have opened up such a silly thread.
Wow. What is the criteria for title defences these days? When Hopkins beat Trinidad to unify the 3 major belts, he didn't lose until Taylor who lost to Pavlik, who lost to Martinez, who lost to Cotto, who lost to Canelo. If he hasn't beaten the champion how can he claim to defend a championship belt?
Im no sure that it IS blasphemy to mention GGG in the same breath as the old-time greats any longer. At this stage (2016) - with all those ko's, and the visibly obvious top-class nature of his boxing etc etc --> he has to at least warrant some serious consideration : at the very least he is due that.
He may not be lineal, but there's no doubt that he's "the man" he's simply the best MW right now. Not ever, but definitely now.
