Don't think either make a good comparison to Groves. Both fighters were in their prime with much to prove and there was an obvious way back.
Yes retire now..Hes had some very very hard fights, and I think hes past his best now. I don't like the look of him when talking in interviews, he seems vacant. Great career, walk away proud !
I was actually on ESB for the Wlad Sanders and Wlad Brewster losses lol. It was pretty crazy lol. I know what point youre making, but Im just not sure it fits here. LL and Wlad were in their primes, were great fighter who simply got upset in flash losses, ect. I can see those fights and think ok... **** happens. I watch the groves fight, I see a worn fighter whose always been a level below elite imo, I see his form, i see that to me he looks a bit like he mentally folded as well, and my genuine assessment of him is hes done at the top level. If Im wrong I will happily eat humble pie... as I would love for Groves to come back successfully. But out of all of boxing the only two fighters Ive really seen rebound a bit after I thought they were done at the top level was Pac after JMM4, and Cotto after the second Margarito fight. Every other fighter that I can think of who I thought was on their way out, pretty much were. Again I hope Im wrong with groves. We will see. I just dont want to see him take any unnecessary losses and punishment.
At the championship level, yeah I unfortunately think he is. He might still carry on looking for a couple paydays versus DeGale II, Eubank II maybe Fielding.
I wouldn't say he's done. Groves was always a good, but never an outstanding fighter. Very Good and elite fighters will always beat him, but I'm glad he was able to claim a piece of the title, since he certainly paid his dues by having back to back fights with Froch. Now that he's a former champion I can see him taking 2-3 easy fights and maybe having a rematch with Eubanks Jr. or challenging for a title again, since either option in money in the bank.
He can definitely still compete, but I think he should considering retiring, maybe after a goodbye win. Unfortunately that's probably too much to hope for. Either way, George is a big part of what I love about boxing. He definitely isn't the most talented fighter, but he fought through multiple disapointments to eventually reach his dream and win a world title.
He's not done he will be in some more big fights possibly even a rematch with Smith one day , he's lucky in the fact he has a few decent cash out fights around , Degale 2 Eubank 2 Smith 2 Rocky Fielding possibly even BJS one day
The Iron Granite Sherrif of Nottingham took something from the lad. Cant quite figure out what cause he still came back impressively, but seemed something was amiss If he cant make 168, feed him to the Beterbiev and let nature take its course
