Looking at the odds and Nate Campbell is 6/4 for this fight. Now, Guzman is obviously the slicker boxer but I've noticed he tends to switch off during fights. Question is, is he just lazy or is he just incapable of maintaining his level for twelve rounds? Cause I'm thinking Campbell might eke out a tight decision by coming on strong late on and Guzman doesn't have the fleet feet to fight on the backfoot as effectively as a PBF. Is this plausible?
Humberto Soto is the junior lightweight equivelent to Margarito. He wins fights through pressure and volume, but doesn't have severe punching power. That's not to say that he can't punch at all, but he's not a big puncher in the division. Nate Campell on the other hand is the BIG PUNCHER of the division. He can end the fight in a single punch, but as a multi-dimensional fighter, doesn't rely soley on his power to win the fight. Nate can do it all and is a true student of the game. He can get in deep and apply educated pressure, and he can stick and move at range. If you noticed, Soto, who's a predictable fighter with one gameplan, managed to tag Guzman in the early rounds, but lacked the power to hurt him even when he managed to land cleanly. As Soto tired, Guzman began to use his legs more and Soto became frustrated and gassed. Campbell is not only a smarter fighter than Soto, but when he tags Guzman, Guzman will feel his punches, and Cambell who is very slick will TAG Guzman.
Where the heck are you finding 6/4 odds? The sites I check have it closer to 9/4. 6/4 might actually be worth betting on.
Name me a fight where Campbell ended the fight on one punch. I know he's LOST a couple of fights on one punch, but I can't think of any where he scored a KO other than by accumulation. Please enlighten me good sir.
This is the only chance Nate has of winning, IMO. I think Guzman will stay on his bike and make him look silly.
nate will stop guzman late guzman had hard time with barrios who is much more of a limited fighter than nate
He's going to have to rely on his boxing skills because he's not going to hurt Campbell ... I see Campbell walking him down and beating him down to a late rounds stoppage. Guzman gets hit alot and isn't all that strong at this weight ... I don't care who's in his corner they're not going to be able to fight for him ... Campbell by TKO
It's not plausible by any means. Whether Joan is incapable of maintaining the high level or not, that's not the main issue. Joan may switch on-off-and on back again b'cause he is versatile enough to do it and can do it whenever he wants to/needs to. Nate will have a hard time to make this one as physical as he would need to. See it by the other side, how can Nate come on strong late if Joan controls the tempo for 3/4s of the fight? It's all about rocking Guzman as soon as possible or it's gone for Campbell... I would never bet on one fighter just because the other may switch off ( and I don't see a reason for him to do it since he's challenging for the LWT title for the first time).
Guzman is one of these rare fighters that has this great need to show off and be seen when he's in the ring - possibly even more at times than it interests him to do the job, win, and get results. There are aspects of Joan Guzman's fighting style, and type of mental warfare, that will have absolutely no effect whatsoever on Nate Campbell, and if Guzman isn't more focused and workmanlike than normal he can exponentially add to his chances of losing.
