Is hand speed related to athleticism or is it completely different?

What i mean by that is that can a guy who is not very gifted as an overall athlete have fast hand speed or is hand speed one of the traits of an overall good athlete?

The only guy with great hand speed that i can think of that is not a good athlete is Eddie Chambers at HW.

And also, how much can hand speed be improved upon with training or is hand speed something you either have or you don't and any improvements made in training is very minimal?

    Yes, athletism and technique.

Yes, it can be trained. Some have been gifted naturally.

A bit of both. Butterbean has good handspeed. But hes a bucket of lard.

In most cases, the more athletic you are, you are likely to have decent hand speed.

Handspeed can be increased. I dont think you can get huge gains, but you can see a difference.

Being a great athlete has to do with how fast you brain communicates with your body, which translates to speed, and over all physical talent. Mass is the reason that more bigger guys arent as fast. The smaller you are the faster you move. what Im saying is if you had two guys that were equal in ablity and all things being equal in a p4p sence, the smaller guy would be faster, because he is moving less mass.

I think that everyone can improve anything about themselves, speed, size and even reflexes, the cap is were the talent makes the difference. which as I said comes down to how fast the brain tells the body what to do and the control in which you do it.

Yeah but when he was a middleweight it was unreal. I think maybe the fastest hands of all times. He was slower as a lt heavyweight. As a middleweight not only was he fast as hell but he had alooot of power. i think that only two fights he didnt knock the guy out under 175 maybe three Hopkins Toney and i think there was one more I cant remember who it was.

Different to an extent! Hand speed doesn't necessarily mean you are athletic....just that you are quick or fast.

IF you are athletic it means you have the capability to do other physical things that most other "non" athletic bodies can't.

Haveing good upper and lower body movement .....using your legs to control range, the ability to keep your center of gravity or balance are things that make a person athletically inclined. Speed is an attribute but can enhance ones athletic ability.

RJJ has Freaking handspeed. In boxing you can only enhance your handspeed, you can't teach speed in boxing just like in basketball its a gift from God. for me they are related with athleticism...

James "Mahfukin" Toney has incredible handspeed, and look at him. He can pop off a jab about as fast as any heavyweight, and he's a "mah****in" whale.

Bit of both really. The naturally gifted will always have the edge a la RJJ, PBF, SRL and Ali but it can be trained. The most common method is the speed ball. But shadow boxing with weights can also increase handspeed
