I find it interesting that he was mostly beaten at various times in his career by punchers like Archie Moore, but it was a fighter with a very different approach, Willie Pastrano, who beat Johnson by turning the tables on him in their 1963 15 rounder by refusing to lead against Johnson and forcing him out of his "comfort zone". Pastrano found the answer to Johnson's legendary technical prowess and stuck to his game plan to win a disputed decision. Actually, the more I read about that fight, and after having watched it a few times on YouTube, I think that Pastrano deserved it.

Harold Johnson did a lot of things text book, but you are right. He had trouble with punchers. Johnson lacked the power and sometimes aggression to get other fighters respect.

???? Please explain. He beat 6'3 210lb Nino Valdez by shutout decision 10 rounds to 0. Valdez was a big puncher. Johnson also won a fierce battle with top Heavyweight contender Clarence Henry, who is one of the hardest punchers of the era on film, and by contemporary accounts.
