I'm not referring to how he performed. It was a fantastic performance. But he tried to pull out at the last minute until Frank and Enzo talked him around. Do some research. :good
This is the first time I've heard someone explain why it was that Lennox beat Tyson. Everyone on youtube made it seem like Lennox was just that great of a fighter that he stopped a prime Tyson... but i never could understand why I never heard anything else about Lennox after the tyson fight.
Nigel Benn wanted no part of Calzaghe. Jones Jr saw what Benn did to his dog fighting scumbag pal McClellan and wanted no part of Benn. Jones Jr also wanted no part of Collins, who also wanted no part of Calzaghe. Jones Jr stayed in his poxy country fighting drug addicts, bums and janitors crying about how he was treated in Korea in the ama's. And even to fight the American garbage he fed on he needed steroids. Ffs he wouldn't even go and fight that useless Polish / German knobhead Michaelewski. Hopkins another over rated Yank hype job, all mouth and no guts who blatantly DUCKED Calzaghe when in his prime to fight the equally useless Yank fvckwit Carl Daniels. All this piece of **** whines about is how he is some kind of reformed gangsta cos he went to prison. Whoopee fvcking doo, he should have gone back to the projects and been just another mugger, instead of being boxings cure for insomnia. Why is it all these idiot Yank fighters say it is / was either a life of crime in the projects, or boxing ( install which ever sport you like ) are they too inherently fvcking stupid to realise there are other choices?
For the last time: Hopkins v Calzaghe was almost made in 2002. It was Hopkins who prevented this from happening. Hopkins admitted this at the press conferences for the 2008 fight. It is still amazing that Joe gets no credit for fighting Hopkins in 2008.
In 2002 Roy Jones was the undisputed Light Heavyweight champion of the world and p4p number 1, getting ready to fight for the Heavyweight championship. He held literally every belt in the Light Heavyweight division besides the WBO because he knew how **** it was. In 2002 Bernard Hopkins was the undisputed Middleweight champion in the world and p4p top 5 fighter, who just finished beating Felix Trinidad and eyeing a super fight with DLH or RJ. He didn't hold the WBO belt though till some years later because he knew that belt was ****. In 2002 Joe Calzaghe was some British hypejob from an obscure country called Wales who I've never heard about till I saw an episode of Hey Arnold explaining one of the characters to be Welsh. He fought in a shitty division created so that Ray Leonard and Hearns could win a title in a new division without having to do much work. He also held the WBO belt that nobody wanted besides other Euro hypejob bums like Chris Eubank and that German guy.
Both Ricky and Amir only one title defence each with Frank before they left. So we don't know what would have happened. He eventually took Calzaghe to America and wanted him to fight Pavlik instead of Jones. Frank has taken plenty of fighters abroad, but remember he makes money by promoting shows in the UK. The problem is this stupid theory that you must go to America. Why? The best US fighters struggle to get 10,000 through the gate whereas the best European fighters get 17,000 - 30,000 through the gate. Sometimes more. Not enough US champions travel in my opinion. Maybe a prime Roy Jones should have travelled.
In October 96 Jones beat some road sweeping Yank bum called Brannon at 168. One year later Calzaghe beat Eubank for his 168 belt. Jones was having only his 3rd 175 fight then, but chose to stay at his steroid pumped up 175 rather than come back down. As another poster ( A Yank by the way ) stated Joe did in fact call out Jones, as did the useless Euro Michaelewski, both were refused. Get it into your head Jones was ok fighting American bums, drug addicts, bus drivers and janitors. Anyone who posed a threat was avoided like the plague, or as Tarver, Johnson, J Cal, Green, and Lebedev, they beat the cretin.
calzaghe deserves some props for beating hopkins, but not fighting him in his prime (or jones for that matter) was all about calzaghe not crossing the pond hopkins didnt "prevent it from happening" - calzaghe had no international profile so he was a high risk-low reward fight all joe had to do was change that and the hopkins (and jones) fights could have been made
live gates dont bring in $$$ PPV and casinos generate much, much more why do you think vegas hosts so many fights with a relatively small arena?
Come back down, for WHO??? He'd beaten Toney, and the Liles and Benn fights were hard to make because of King wanting future options, and the Levin's not wanting to deal with hm. What was Joe doing when Roy was knocking out Virgil Hill and unifying against Reggie Johnson? He was struggling with Robin Reid and fighting Gimenez and Rick Thornberry, while telling reporters, he wasn't chasing Roy Jones and didn't want tough fights. Joe mentioned Roy's name after McIntyre in 2001. Then what happened? ****ING NOTHING! He continued to defend his WBO belt that was worth a packet of peanuts, and continued to fight in a weight division BELOW, and in a different country. Roy also didn't refuse the DM fight. Why don't you go and READ post 19! Come back to me, when you have a clue what you're talking about. :good
I don't need to read post 19 or indeed any other. Both DM, and J Cal called for fights with Jones Jr. Try to understand your opinion is merely that and has no bearing on reality. If it suits you to try to portray those opinions as knowledge, crack on. I'm sure there are fellow Jones Jr nuthuggers who will believe you.
