Ricky Hatton and Junior Witter have been rivals for an eternity. Both have established themselves in amongst the upper echelons of the light welterweight division. A fight between the two would fill any stadium in Britain – grossing millions in the process. However, even though Hatton is moving back to Britain post Floyd Mayweather, the fight seems no closer to being staged. This of course begs the question: why? full story: http://www.setantasports.com/en/Spo...cets/sport-space/great-britain-locale/boxing/
hatton said he will fight witter just not right not. the reason behind it ??? beats me. maybe he wants more time to hype it up.
I don't think its fair to accuse a guy who was willing to put his undefeated record on the line against the p4p #1 of dodging. I guess there is never a way to eliminate all unfair detractors. no matter what you do, someone will invent something.
I think when we know for sure who hattons next opponent is then we can decide. If he doesn't fight any of the guys above and takes a fight in the u.k against an average fighter, then i will start doubting him. Most of hattons fans (myself included) want to see him get it on with Witter.
its not been a big fight for hatton until recently because he's always been after mayweather i've got a feeling it might happen eventually
Yeah, he fought Kostya Tszyu, Jose Luis Castillo and Floyd Mayweather but is ducking Junior Witter. :rofl :rofl :rofl
I think any guy who openly admits to wanting Floyd Mayweather, and talks about the fight in a relaxed manner, rather than sounding like a cockhead, cannot be accused of ducking anyone. He genuinely felt he could beat Floyd, not as ridiculous as it sounds really, I have seen about 30 of Ricky's fights, I can only think of four or five where he performed to a lower standard than he did against Floyd. There are many fighters which fall into the Witter category, but none seem to get as much publicity. This is the problem with boxing, you lose one fight (to a top 5 P4P ATG IMO) and your a bum! WTF is that all about? He was willing to risk 43-0 against Floyd - he could easily have stayed at 140 in his comfort zone chinning everything that came in front of him, but instead moved up to welter (where he isn't even half the fighter) and had a go. Kudos to you Ricky. Witter brings **** all to the table, only 1000 turned up to the Harris fight in his own town. What does that tell you? Question: How many other British fighters have sold almost 1m PPV buys in US, plus around 2m in UK? Not that many - Witter couldnt even get near that.
Interesting that this comes from the Setanta website who are presently pouring money into boxing. Think its showing the frustration from the British tv angle that they would love this fight and they think Hatton is skating around it. Although to be honest he'd have trouble dodging anyone in his present physical condition
To be fair to Ricky, he isn't as bad as he sometimes gets! British TV are interested in this one, but they would be interested in any Ricky Hatton fight. That's just the way it is. The problem with this for Ricky is that if he takes the fight, nobody will give a **** really, he will get criticism for not fighting an American (such as Paulie 'the paper champ' Malignaggi). If he doesn't, it will be more of what we have seen on ESB recently. Witter hasn't made a career out of slagging Hatton off, but only a fool would fail to recognise that he has tried to make the most of Ricky losing to Mayweather, some of it justified, some of it rather cynical in my view. Ricky is one hell of a fighter, and deserves more respect than some are showing at present. I am not a nuthugger, just merely acknowledge a top performer when I see one, and to be honest, who in recent times has done as much for British boxing as Ricky?
Witter is said not to deserve a fight with Hatton because he's not in his level but the latter is said to take on big american name Juan Lazcano ( mexican based in Sacramento, Cali), who in his last fight lost a decision to Vivian Harris who would be destroyed by the former... So why is Hatton taking a fighter like Lazcano next if the mexican-american is well below Witter's level??? Doesn't make sense, not even from the finantial perspective...
