After Paulie's impressive performance this weekend does this mean Hatton is not as finished as people think

Hatton only two fights ago dominated Paulie and would do again if they met

For me the fight with Manny was just a joke because Ricky had a terrible camp and has admited that he knew he had left it all in the gym before the fight and just wanted to find one knockout punch

Ok Ricky has suffered two bad knockouts but he has not been dominated and beat up over the course of 12 rounds and not been in to many absolute wars, he is still quite young and if he sorts his lifestyle out for the next two years could still be a force

I think you have your elite fighters Money, pac etc your world class fighters, Bradley, Paulie etc and Ricky is somwhere inbetween but with the right camp, an unbiased ref, the correct weight division and going teetotal for a couple of years Ricky still could be the give ANYONE a fight

I agree Ricky falls just short of the best around but is better then your average titlist thats for sure.

I think stylistically he would eat up most Paulie Malinaggi types aswell..simply because they lack the punch or physical strength to keep him at bay.

Ricky is damaged goods to some degree and may be more so now...but he is still good to enough to beat most around 135-140...especially the non punchers. Though I wouldnt be confident of picking him over Bradley.

Hatton isn't shot he was just never the superstar that Manny Pacquiao or Floyd Mayeather are he fought the best and came up short

There are probably not many fighters other than these two around his weight class that can give Ricky trouble

But why should Ricky fight on? All he ever wanted was to be the best and he's not.

Yes he can win another world title at 140 but for what?

Enjoy the beer mate you don't need the money

I wouldn't say he was shot in May. Give all the credit to Manny Pacquiao who was sensational that night and proved vs. Cotto it was no fluke. I'd say Hatton is pyhsically past it but not so badly to lose in 2 rounds and go down from the 1st punch.

IMO he clearly overtrained or something terribly went wrong physically, you could see he was extemely stiff on Friday, his posture was simply bad like someone who had some sort of back injury or nerve problems, I mean look at this photo. He pretty much looked like the same walking in and out on Saturday, and he had absolutely no head movement in the fight. The young Ricky actually had good head movement.

Ricky looked very strange at the weigh-in. But IMO was not shot. Overtrained most likely.

I think the only way will know about Hatton is a comeback with two tune up fights .Before facing off with a guy like JMM. I also think he needs a trainor like Teddy tlas to bring him back to greatness

His punch resistance has declined a great deal

were it not for a loose shoelace Lazcano would've stopped him its just that Paulie can't hit with sufficient force to dent even his weakened chin.

You cant blow away up in weight and shed it all of again over and over the way he did without it affecting your ability to take a shot.

Weightloss was given as a reason for Jones declining so sharply , Hatton had to lose an even bigger percentage of his bodyweight for every fight ( admittedly it wasnt muscle he was dropping but still ! ).

He might well be able to get down to 140 again and be able to look like he could go but his ability to take a serious punch has had it.

I think there's a typo in the headline.

    **** instead of shot.

Ricky was marked up due to sparring - you can see it in interviews before the fight. Getting hit in sparring is a bad sign. Not being able to do the fundementals like putting your gloves up at this stage in his career is just plain idiocy and a sign of inherent crapness, especially against someone like Manny. Paulie ain't Manny, obviously.

Nah, I don't think he has much left and a few comments he has made about the Mayweather fight being nip and tuck, along with winning the second round against Pac by a country mile, is making me think that he is delusional of late.

He's badly faded from wars outside the ring, not in it. His body is seriously damaged do to alcohol abuse and eating all the wrong kinds of foods. Had he lived cleaner he'd have fared a lot better in his past 2 fights (but would still have lost, however he would have seen the bell vs Mayweather imo). At this stage he's done, stamina and resistance have gone, 2 things he was always famed for before he went international.

I don't think he's shot either, but I do think his weight gaining between fights has hindered him in a big way. Also when you watch his fights with Pac and Floyd there's just no head movement, there's no technique, his chin is out there for the taking.....I think he can take a shot it's just against fighters with a bit of bang like Pacman, he was KO'd due to his lack of head movement and Pac's speed!

I think he probably could come back maybe late spring, early summer 2010 for a fight at 140, but it depends who against really, he could do with a tune-up like the Lazcano fight to get back into shape.....then stay in shape ready for another fight a few months later, maybe with someone like Bradley or Khan....interesting fights and he could lose either if you ask me!

Exactly you watch his early career and he's got a great engine , always working then you watch his later fights and he holding on the inside and not throwing anything like as many shots , that happened for a reason !

Ricky always knew his style an lifestyle would lead to a short career , its just ( as with many fighters ) now his time has come he doesnt want to walk away.

i never thought hatton was shot. he lost to the p4p number one and number two fighters. the only reason people talk about him being shot is cuz they hate british fighters.

I'd tend to cut the guy a little slack even though I'm not a fan. He got beat by THE 2 best guys out there. There's no shame in that. No reason he can't continue until he proves he no longer has it. Just keep him away from the guys who could knock him around, around his weight(Cotto, Mosley, etc.) and let him beat the Malignaggi's and Castillo's of the world. He has such a big fan base, why not give them something to cheer about....and make some $$$ in the process.
