Been a long time since there's been such a popular boxer like this in the UK. Is He even more famous than Calzaghe? or maybe about the same?
More famous than Calzaghe for sure, not just in the UK but world-wide as well. Hatton has had victories over much better opponents than Calzaghe.
He has by far the largest keen following of any British fighter as the 10,000 pilgrims at the weekend would suggest. Khan is a more recognisable name amongst the entire general population, but he'll never take that many people overseas. Calzaghe is also more capable of that than Khan I believe.
Both are quite famous but Hatton is loved, Calzaghe isn't. Hatton gets you emotionally invested in a fight.
It is indeed a guy with no pants on. But that fact alone does not make the picture gay. A woman may look at it, they do not percieve it as gay though, they can't they are a woman. A man might look at it and realise it is a picture of a man with no pants on. He however does no percieve it as gay, as a picture of Robin Reid does not mean anything sexual to him personally. Anyone calling my avatar gay: (a) is male (b) personally associates Robin Reid with sex (specifically homo-sexual as the word gay was used) for whatever reason To me it is just a picture of a man with no pants on and is easily ignored.
Anyone who asks 'Who's that guy in your avatar'? Oh dear!! You just know they don't know much about boxing!!
Hatton is huge with Sport fans in the UK. Only problem is that terrestrial TV has never shown his fights live, you've always had to subscribe to Sky Sports and for the last fight Setanta. Even without that sort of free to air coverage Htton is huge. Calzaghe is getting recognition now as his fights are now on free to air TV. Problem with Calzaghe is that people do not warm to him as much, and he can be in some stinker matchups. His last couple of outings have been good but some of his defences have been pain awful to watch.
For the sake of argument, why can women not percieve an image as gay? There are several aspects of your avatar which simply scream 'GAY' at me, the oil, his obviously meticulously preened hair do, the lack of underwear and dangerously low slung WBC belt, just the general feel of the image as a whole is gay, perhaps with a stripper type vibe also. The use of this image on a forum populated (probably entirely) by males also suggests an element of humour as the image is somewhat less than macho, infact it is overwhelmingly gay. Am I the only one who perceives this image as even slightly gay?
